View Full Version : What the HELL happened to MY country........

I seem to recall just a few years ago .. just as I did in the early 80's when being an AMERICAN was something to be proud of. when it was a badge of honor.
I know we have never been perfect as a country .. but when THE HELL did it become a "bad" thing ?
I'm personally sick of defending my being an American.
I'm sick of being proud of everything we have done.
I'm sick of helping with little to no thanks.
No country in the world has given as much as America has.
No country has sent her son's and daughter's into harms way to protect and serve OTHERS like we have.
When did we lose sight of songs like Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA" ( I've met Mr. Greenwood several times, and heard him sing this live many times.... . I can bearly suck back tears when he sings it in an MP3/ on CD ..Live I ball like a little girl with a skinned knee.)
Toby Keith's " Red White and Blue", Neil Diamond's "America", The Air Force's Wild Blue Yonder, The Army's, The Army Goes Rolling Along, The Marine's, From The Halls Of Montezuma, To the Navy's, Anchors Away. ( I was a Navy Cadet so they will always top the list for me [AR15] ) Again Mr. Keith's " American Soldier", America the Beautiful, To Plain Old .. God Bless America.
I Know a lot of us on this forum are mad , angry and flat out pissed the hell off at Mr. Obama and the general democratic party right now . but please lets remember that as bad as things feel right now. we can still VOTE and change things. We've been able to do this for over 200 years. not many places in this WORLD can say that.
Let's as a people not forget this fact, honor even in this cold February that Men and Women, Son's and Daughters, Father's and Mother's are out there RIGHT NOW making sure that that right is not taken away from our shores and even fighting to give other human beings the rights we love and hold so dear every day.
"Non Sibi Sed Patriae!"
(Not for self, but country)
I don't give a fuck what anybody says, I'm still proud to be an American and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I still have a flag outside my house everyday and it will be there as long as i am here. My grandfather taught me word like duty, honor, country, and family and I still believe things like that is what makes a man
Amen!!
I can't wait to vote in November.
If we can get some people in the House and Senate that believe in true values like work and reward for work instead of this entitlement bullshit we might be able to derail the socialist/marxist/communist plans of 'dear glorious leader' and the fuckin' democratic party.
The United States of America is the GREATEST country in the entire short history of mankind. We've done the mostest with the bestest and all without gratitude from the rest of the planet. The fact that we continue to provide help and assistance anywhere in the world in spite of all the negative shit from all the rest of the 'civilized' world is a continuing testament of our heart and soul.
Am I an American, HELL YES, wouldn't have it any other way.
It's not about democrats vs. republicans. Our first president George Washington, warned against adopting a party system.
"...the common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of party are sufficient to make it the interest and duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it. It serves always to distract the public councils and enfeeble the public administration. It agitates the community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection. It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption, which finds a facilitated access to the government itself through the channels of party passions. Thus the policy and the will of one country are subjected to the policy and will of another." - George Washington
But we just had to have one, and now we're wading through the fallout.
Politics have become one giant high-school popularity contest, full of career politicians, who really don't care about anything other than staying in office.
I mean honestly, I can't think of any major-party president in the last four elections that I truly WANTED to vote for.
It was always a pick for the lesser of two evils.
does that seem symptomatic of larger problem to anyone else? or is it just me?
To answer the question - What the HELL happened to MY country........
This country is overrun with folks(parasites) who want something for nothing, and these folks are willing to use the government to confiscate assets from the people who have what these folks want. The party the parasites have chosen to exert their will is the Democrat Party and the leadership of the Democratic Party and quite a few Republicans are aiding and abetting the parasites.

Especially read the last quote from 1802.
And pass these on to your children and grandchildren!!
When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as

The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.

It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them. Thomas Jefferson
My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.

No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.
Thomas Jefferson
The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Thomas Jefferson
To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered..'

I don't think anything happened to our country. She's as great as ever.
I think much has gone wrong with our government and the attitude of our elected officials. I also think much of the electorate is ill-informed on issues and would rather vote for a person with personality over substance.
Personally, I think the more appropriate question is, "When did so many of the American people become so stupid?"
The answer to that began when so many people adopted the "entitlement mentality" that was pushed by politicians in order to gain influence, power and a lifetime job in congress. You can thank modern liberalism for that.
Travel, you'll find that it's a very small minority of people in most countries who 'hate' America. I became an American citizen in October (I took my oath along with about 100 other people from the rest of the 'civilized' world who also love this country) but before that I traveled a lot in Europe with my American wife, and the closest thing to a negative reaction she received was from a waiter in Paris who jokingly said "American champagne" when she ordered a coke. I caught more crap from the French for being English than she ever did for being an American.
And regarding gratitude, have you ever been to one of the Allied cemeteries in France, Belgium or Holland? Visit one of those and then talk about how ungrateful the rest of the world is. Look into which countries offered assistance to the Unites States after Katrina and then talk about how ungrateful the rest of the world is. Watch the video of Haitians chanting "USA! USA!" after an American search and rescue team pulled a survivor out of the rubble a couple of weeks ago.
The answer to that began when so many people adopted the "entitlement mentality" that was pushed by politicians in order to gain influence, power and a lifetime job in congress. You can thank modern liberalism for that.
It's not even all that modern. It's been in the doing since the beginning of the 20th century.
One of the above posters referenced jefferson... by far my biggest hero and favorite founding father. Read those quotes and you will know exactly why our country is where it is.
Our government is to powerful, our people are to weak.
The broad majority of the american public would rather be safe, taken care of, and inevitably enslaved to debt and taxes,
than be free, reliant on the sweat of your own brow, and responsible for your own well being.
I love America and everything it was meant to be with the deepest parts of my heart, but she is NOT what she was meant to be.
Democracy fails as soon as the government takes responsibility for well-being and safety away from the individual.
Our nation and our form of government is dependent upon an active, driven, and responsible community of voters, who must be willing to accept the consequences of their own actions, and hold the government accountable when they overstep their bounds.
We have drifted so far from that. Maybe people like us who frequent venues like this forum are trying to stay on the right track,
but we are outnumbered 10 to 1 by the vast populations in large cities that simply don't care.
I don't know what the real solution is, other than to do what you can to spread awareness and knowledge about the way this country was intended to be, and how it could be so much better.
Because that's a knowledge that's been all but lost over the past hundred years.
I pray that I see a great change in my lifetime, although I doubt that I will.
But little by little I see more and more people waking up to the truth....
hopefully one day, it will be enough to provide some real change (and not the obama kind.)
I am still pretty young but try to catch up on the experience and knowledge of those who have been around and seen much more than I have.
I know I am disappointed in the leadership of our country, the way things have happened as of recent in our country and am pissed about both.
BUT, America is still the greatest country and I couldn't ask to be anywhere else. With as much as we have limited to us by our government, we still have some of the greatest liberties than any other country.
We are all lucky to be Americans[Beer]

Sniper, I'm going to comment on some things you said. This is by no means an attack on you, ok brother?
Here's my thoughts: I am young as well and also try to study history and other facets of our lives. I have never been impressed by any of our leadership (except Schwartskoff's handling on OIF). The problem I seen in America is that we ARE the greatest nation, BUT we still compare ourslves to other countries as referenced by Snipers comment. We should stand on our own.
"We still have some of the greatest liberities than any other country" Yes, I agree, but they are still being whittled down every day. We shouldn't compare ourselves to other countries. It's like comparing the CEO of a fortune 500 company with a blue collar construction worker. .... Grr, I don't know how to express what I feel correctly and cohesively. There are certain "inalienable" rights given by God that we should possess. They are being given up day after day to the nanny state....

Hey, Jake...
Congrats on your transformation from subject to United States citizen. I have a few friends who immigrated from the UK last year and they really love it here.
I don't know how to express what I feel correctly and cohesively. There are certain "inalienable" rights given by God that we should possess. They are being given up day after day to the nanny state....
You expressed it perfectly.
Sure, we arguably have more liberties than almost any other country in the world.
but comparing inadequacy to inadequacy is beyond pointless.
The point is not that we are better, the point is that we are not as good as we should be, and if we continue on the current trend, we eventually won't be any good at all.

I totally agree! I tell my fiance this constantly as a matter of fact. I am sick of having our rights compared to that of other countries and have them degraded down to that level. We need a coach (.gov leadership) that can keep us in OUR game, not play down to the level of other countries. little sports metaphor for ya'll!

Great points on this thread. I'm floored almost on a daily basis by the mentality of some folks who can't see the truth of what we can see so clearly.
We don't need big government. We don't need a nanny state. We do need people to be accountable for themselves and their actions. We need to hold people accountable. We need to quit providing for those who have the ability to provide for themselves - even if it's not to the degree of luxury they'd like. We need to quit with the mentality that says someones elses "need" is more important than my wants. My "want" being the desire (want) to keep that which I earn.
We, as a people, have lost our pride. Pride in our works. Pride in doing a job and doing it well. Pride in earning our own way and not becoming a burden to someone else.

You go, Ginsue. Welfare was supposed to be a safety net, not a lifestyle. Too many lazy people now that just want a handout, and then to be able to bite that hand.

those people, along with everyone else living off the government (right on up to capitol hill) are why real change will never come. They will not give up what they have without a fight.
And by fight, I don't mean petitions and heated debate in parliament.

I agree. Now, by extension of that, can you imagine if there was ever some sort of event that impacted the fabric of society as we know it? For example, large areas lost electric power? Can you imagine the chaos and waves of violence these same people would visit on everyone else as soon as the handouts ceased? I don't think it would matter why or how they lost their freebies, the end result would be similar.

WOW... this thread got to exactly the point I was trying to AVOID.
99% of what I meant was ..
What happened to American flags EVERYWHERE.... Like everyone seemed after September 11th, or like in the mid 80's ( at least when I was a kid back then I seem to recall flags everywhere... maybe I was young and the world seemed bigger )
What happened to instead of being mad a democrats, and republicans.... what happened to just being an american ?
Less Anger and more looking forward to changing the issues.
Obama may have campaigned on a "sea of change" but we all know it;s more of the same. lets find the REAL change and vote for it .. instead of fighting each other.
My flag mount broke due to the high winds we get and I never got around to fixing it for the 3rd time.
Thanks for the reminder, she will be back up in all her glory this weekend. [Marine]
