Hope I chose the right area to post this, mods please move it if I goofed- I'm looking for a Rem 700 short action BDL action. Thought you used to be able to get the stripped actions (action, bolt, bottom metal) somewhere, but can't find one online to save my life. It's for a build project so the bbl isn't really important one way or the other to me. Or, anyone have a 90% destroyed beater 700 short action they want to unload between Denver and Pueblo? Hate to buy a complete rifle just to tear it all apart for the action...

Pawn shop is going to be your best bet.

If you are going to have the action blue printed and tweaked, you mill be money ahead getting a 700 clone from a custom maker like Stiller, Lawton or GA Precision.

Actually doing the work myself, so the cheaper action is what I'm looking for.

Brownell's sells them, I think. www.brownells.com (http://www.brownells.com)

I've looked at this issue before myself, and as best as I've been able to tell you'd be better off finding a used one in .243 or .260 or something. New stripped actions cost nearly as much as a whole gun, and often more than I've seen used ones available for. I've been casually keeping a lookout for a used .243 to use as the basis for a heavy barrel .308 tac gun, myself.

Tried brownells, numrich, midway, etc. already, brownells was the closest but all they had were surgeons, cz's and I think dakotas. I'm thinking a used one like troublco suggested may be the way to go, but of course that's subject to the supply and demand of pawnshop inventory.

Check walley world, they sometimes have the SPS in a youth model for under $400.
