looking for opinions on what to replace my iron front sight with.

Standard Armalite A2 with Carry handle, The front sight came with the gun, it's some off brand tritium something that doesn't work, it's difficult to see.

I would like to replace it with something like this:

Anyone tried these?

Anything better for less money? ($80 for this small part - ouch!)

In my experience, although nice when they work, the fiber optic and tritium front sight posts only work 25% of the time. That is, only when they face you. If your zero requires that the sight to be other than this, then the whole point is out the window. I've always painted the front sight post in the past bright orange or green or super glued a small strip of luminicent tape to the post once sighted in. If someone could create shims to go under the post to allow proper alignment and zero, although time consuming, that would be the way to go.

Trijicon tritiums are adjustable so that the always face you as well, doubt I can explain it, but I'll try- The front sight post sits on a shaft with it's own independent detent plate on the base the two plates rotate independently one on top of the other. Adjust the height of the front sight post by moving both plates, line up the tritium to face you by only turning the top plate. I've used this type for better than 10 years now with no problems. FWIW. http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=13170/Product/RIFLE_SIGHTS

I'm considering some of the bright glo paint kits - for $20 it would be an option for several of my weapons... any thoughts on those?

appreciate everyones feedback so far...

I just use $1 paint from hobby lobby. Works great and a bottle lasts forever....The glow paint there does not work though.
