My wife of 21 years and I usually don't celebrate most of the Hallmark card relationship holidays. Which means that I got diddly, which I'm okay with.

She had to work today and was out before I got up. She did leave me a note which ended with "Happy Valentines Day". So, since it's been so long since I got her any flowers, I knew that today needed to be the day.

I really hate giving a woman flowers when they are expecting them. Since we haven't celebrated V-Day for several years, I knew that (of all days) today she would NOT be expecting anything.

I stopped by my old stand-by florist who was thankfully open and still had roses. I got her an arranged mix of red roses and white carnations and delivered it to her at work with her favorite Starbuck Caramel Frappaccino. She was floored - very thrilled.

I also made dinner tonight (Chicken fried steak, gravy, Mashed potatoes - all from scratch, then Broccoli in a 3 chesse sauce from a frozen-food package).

I won some points which means I'll stay out of the doghouse for another couple of days.

Practical gifts? And something for the home versus a personal gift? Oh boy are you in trouble. You have much to learn about gifts young apprentice!

Very sorry to hear about your grandmother. I was closest to my first grandmother that passed away. She taught me a lot and really believed in me. Very special person. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

Smart move on the jacket!
