Can someone get denied the purchase of a firearm here in Colorado with too many parking tickets?
A friend of mine just told me she got denied because of that and the lady next to her got denied because she received a curfew ticket when she was 16 and that lady is now 40.
My friend has no felonies and no DV.
I don't think so. there is a process to fight it.
someone will chime in soon enough with a link or the process, I can't remember where it is off the top of my head.
people are wrongly denied relatively often.
I think your friend is not telling you the whole story... or she has some unpaid ticket.
Get in touch with CBI they can and will help resolve the problems.

Has anyone had any problems with 5280 Armory. I have purchased there before and had no issues...

If you have been denied go here.

I do know in other places you can be denied because of an unpaid parking ticket.

Definitely more to both stories. Unless a bench warrant was issued for the unpaid tickets.

In my experience if a warrant was issued the gun store will usually call the police and wait while the person is still in the store.
Once a moron behind the counter thought I had a warrant and didn't and once I was the person arresting for the warrant.
I always figure there is more to every story, but this person is usually pretty honest with me and couldn't think of any tickets or other issues that would stop her from getting a gun

When the dealer submits the info off of the 4473 to CBI they do not know if there is an active warrant. If they do know you have an active warrant by law they would have to refuse to run the background check.
I have seen a couple of occurances where their was a wanted person attempting to purchase a firearm. CBI called the dealer by phone and advised them that the individual has an active warrant. They then asked the dealer to stall the individual if safely possible and L.E. was notified and on the way.
Both resulted in arrest of the individual without incident.

Interesting info on the number of bad denials appealed and reversed: http://cbi.state.co.us/ic/Statistics/2010stats/JAN%202010%20monthly%20appeal%20web%20stats.pdf
Total denials: 443
Appealed: 194
Reversed: 114
So, basically, more than 25% of denials were bogus, and reversed on appeal. More than 58% of the appeals were successful. The true number of bogus denials is probably higher, since a number of people denied either did not appeal, or their appeals were not completed at the time the information was compiled. This information is for January of this year. Not exactly what I would call confidence inspiring.
