I get a $%&* letter in the #%& mail today #^%& saying that my #^& payments on my #$& student loans are $^& being &^#^$& increased!! I already can't #%&* afford the #$^%&* payments anyways. Call them and asked why... because I was two days late on teh last payment... #$%^&*

What happens when you default? Stuff like this makes me want to just tell them to @#$^& off...

On the brightside, they didn't increase the interest rate which I thought was weird....

Don't take this the wrong way, but this could be your ticket to freedom. Win $50,000. Lose enough weight to be considered by the military. Get some recognition for your music, etc, etc.

Win $50K? Lol, I'm the guy that can't even win a piece of candy at the office raffle.

I'm working on the weight stuff, that's a horror story unto itself. I amgetting some recognition for the music, and have over the years, unfortunately it's not too popular as it's not rap, hip-hop, etc and I'm not a sexy chic or ruggedly handsome gangsta/cowboy so it doesn't pay the bills unto itself. HAHA.

Well, you could always not try and guaranty failure.

Lol, sorry Stuart. I didn't mean to sound like I was shooting you down. I appreciate the input. I think I think too much sometimes. For now I'm working and just wanted to rant about that stupid letter. I'll work my ass off until I get ahead one of these days, I'll have mine and my family will be taken care of.

I'm not going to put myself on public television, etc... lol. I would end up in jail probably.

Or you are caught with more than two condoms in your possession while in Washington D.C.

I think that is for "concealed" condoms.

Yes, in order to teach at highschool or collegiate level, I needed a BM. I went ahead and did a Masters as well since I didn't find a job straight out of college.

The degrees have helped me quite a bit and I do not consider it a waste. My family are famers, except for my father and grandfather who are ex militatry. Student loans were the only way I could afford to go to college.

Unlike mortgage loan, student loan cannot be wiped out even with bankruptcy. (that i recall from long ago).
Damn Sallie Mae. :(

Very bad things. Once your lender puts you in default and refers this to the federal govt, you're opening yourself up to:

IRS taking your tax refunds
Garnishment of wages
Loss of some federal benefits such as SS payments
Getting sued by the Federal Govt

The Govt will get their due, one way or another.

Yeah, did my own research. Well... "I will survive!" lol. There are up to certain limits in which they can garnish but anything would suck... I just don't understand the mentallity of "this guy has called and asked for lower payments, so let's add another hundred or so to the bill". How does that work? It is my debt, I can afford x amount (for now) and when I can afford more we can up the ante. There like no... we'll keep you down for a while, you owe us your kidney and left leg. lol. Thread dead!

Ok BigBear...
I hate the student loan folks more now...
I just got a message to call SallieMae, so I call them... apparently, unbeknownst (sp?) to me... they sold some of my loans to Dept. of Edumication.... IN OCTOBER of '09!
[Rant1]
I was 5 months behind - glad they were kind enough to let me know...
There went a few hundred bucks I didn't have - just to get current.
They didn't let me know the payment on my other loans was reduced - and the transfer of the loan means now my TOTAL payment is going to be higher.
[Rant2]
Freaking Spectacular.

While I don't owe them yet, (still in school) Wells Fargo did the same to me (sold to gov). Thankfully it wasn't that much and Ill be able to pay it off with my left arm, but I'm still pissed.

Sorry to hear that man. Most of my payments are going UP because I'm trying to take care of them... that doesn't make sense to me but I am going to be estatic a few years downt he road when I don't owe anyone anything.

Best investment you'll ever make IMO, even if it was "just for music". Depending on the school district you work for, the Bush administration was forgiving student loans for teachers, not sure if it is still available, but definitely worth some phone calls. I helped my sis-in-law fill out the paperwork to have hers forgiven.

Been paying on mine for 10+ years, at 2% it was the cheapest loan i ever made and had the best ROI.

cheers,
Tim

Read it. Not sure how I feel about it. If I ever go to finish/get my DMA/Ph.D then it "could" be good news as I would be dealing direct....

However, right now I'm less concerned about paying it back (because I do owe it as I did borrow it [be in debt to no man]) and more concerned about having the job/money TO pay it back and keep my family's head above water. We are already moving into a smaller place just to try and save a few extra bucks.
