View Full Version : 10mm glock to 40 cal.
Can you turn a 10mm g29 into a 40 cal. Or can you shoot 40s&w rounds through it, prolly have to change springs.
Sorry guys I'm not a glock guy- yet.[Tooth]

Short answer is yes, but you need to buy a new barrel (is my understanding at least). Check out Lone Wolf, they have lots of conversion barrels for the 29 (357 sig stock length, 357 sig ported and extended, 40s&w stock length, 40s&w ported and extended)

dam, ninjaed! I was just typing the above stuff out, already had the link ready if that counts for me...
Question 2: Is it better then a standed sub compact 40S&W or no real gain.

Is what better?
I have heard that some of the lone wolf barrels allow firing of lead bullets without having to worry about fouling up the barrel, but check out peoples opinions over on glocktalk.com (the forum section) to get a better idea.
edit: looks like SAFriday knows more about this than I do, so I removed the bad info...

NOT the same size. The 10mm glocks are built on the 45 ACP frames. The 40 S&W glocks are built on the same frame as the 9mm frames. The Glock 20 and 29 are larger than their corresponding 40 cal guns (g22 and G27).
A 40 cal glock mag will NOT work in a 10mm. However, since the 10mm and 40 cal are the exact same diameter, and the only difference is length, the 10mm mag will work after changing the barrel to a 40 cal .
The benefit is you can load the 40 cal loads a little longer than the std 40 cal mags and chamber, and 40 cal brass and ammo is much easier to find and cheaper. Many prefer the larger frame size but want to take advantage of the cheaper ammo. The conversion barrel is the way to go. I personally prefer the KKM barrels. Lone Wolfe has a tendency to cut the chamber too tight and require very precise reloads to feed reliably. If you do go with a Lone Wolfe, ask them to open the chamber up .001" and you will be fine. They do this regularly.
No spring changes are required as long as your are shooting ammo with the average recoil of 40 cal target rounds.
Both KKM and Lone Wolfe barrels use standard rifling. Glock OEM barrels use polygonal rifling. This is why Glock doesn't recommend shooting lead bullets out of their barrels. With the right conditions, the lead bullets can 'skid' while spinning and leave huge lead deposits. Too much lead=obstruction=bad juju pressures and kaboom. I have shot lead through my 9mm's quite a bit without major incident, but I have tested this a lot and know the pitfalls. I don't recommend this unless you are very experienced with reloading and Glocks.
A very big thanks. [Beer]
Instead of buying a barrel, maybe reduce 10mm loads. I thought the springs in the 10mm were to stiff. I cast all my bullets for 45 acp,45/70,30/30 44,45lc,357,32-20, i think that's it. So I could get a new mold and start casting or move this thing and get a 45.[Tooth]
Thanks again

Yep, just sell it to me and get a .45 [Tooth]
If you don't reload, you'll be suprised at how much it is to buy factory ammo for these things.
Edit: one other thing to make note of is the polygonal rifiling in the Glock barrels don't like lead.

I don't. I prefer the smaller frame. I run 1.135 OAL in those. I run 1.185 OAL in my STI's.
Interesting name. I know of 4 Lim GM's in the Ft Collins/Greeley area. None shoot Glocks though.

I have a stainless steal barrel in .40 for my Glock 29. It works fine. I have some increased power recoil springs that need to be replaced with the factory spring in order for it to work.
Swap the barrel and you're good to go. The brass just makes it past my side when ejecting.
The issue you have with drop in barrels with Glocks is no big deal in the 10mm units. The breach face / rim of the 10mm/.40/.357 Sig are all the same size. So is the 9X25 Dillon if you want to really play.
Loading 40 to an oal of about 1.200-1.230 makes it gun with conversion barrels and OEM mags.

Yep, Jerry W., Jr, Ron A., and a guy that just moved from AL/AR area that shoots a 6" STI named R. Wayne S. I only know about Wayne because I shot a match with him at Weld last Sep. A new guy whippin up on everyone sparked my investigative skills. [Tooth]

Well, technically, I guess he kinda lives out in the middle of nowhere. I thought his place was somewhere around the Ft Collins/Cheyenne area (Big F'n circle of nothingness area). I could be wrong. Been wrong before.

OK, call it just snoopin around then. [Tooth] I did find an old USPSA number and about a half dozen 100%'s in the Lim Division (explained the ass whoopin). Most of the clubs were on the opposite side of the Mississippi and south of MD. I don't know the clubs around there very well. I went with the most recent clubs in Lim...
Smart enough to surmise your user name with my snoopin though.[Tooth]

Yea, I guess it wasn't to bad for first match in 5 yrs and some odd months. Muscle memory will go along way, but I was about as smooth as a crack baby on espresso.
I'll buy ya a tea next go around. [Beer]

You gotta get back in the game, man. We have our fair share of GM's around here that could use some healthy ass whoopins. Confortable is a bad thing at that level. I just can't seem to stop sandbaggin B class to push them.

Whats wrong with loading long and just using the 10 barrel?

^^^^ The case mouth is what stops the cartridge in the chamber, your firing pin probably wouldn't even hit the primer. So the case itself is still to short even though the OAL length might be right, if you can even pull a bullet out of a .40 far enough to do that safely.

Humn, guess Ill look it over. The mag shot a nice group. [Coffee]
FWIW I've fired over 1500 rounds of 40 S&W through my G20 with no malfunctions. I figure I can buy around 6 extractors or more for the price of a conversion.
