View Full Version : Combat League ?
Anybody know what kind of shooting sport is Combat League ? Something like IDPA ?
Specially interesting would be what kind of gear is needed / allowed ?
I am guessing is something like IPSC or IDPA.
Probably uses a mixture of rules from both.
Where did you hear about it and do you have any where are the matches are held at?
Hannu> Are you talking about the Indoor Combat League at the Boulder Rifle Club? If so that is a home grown IDPA style match with time plus scoring. They use USPSA style targets and all shoot targets require two hits of C-zone or better. If you get a D-zone hit its considered a miss. Penalties are very severe though, such as getting 60 seconds tacked onto your stage time if you have a procedural. Misses and No-Shoot hits are also like 20+ second addition to your time. I am not sure about the exact seconds added to your time for all of the penalties but basically if you get a single penalty your stage run is sunk.
They have three different gun classes to complete in. The first class is "A" which is basically Single Stack with 8 rounds or less in a magazine. Second is "B" class which is 9 rounds or more in a magazine but no excessive modifications to the gun or holster gear(No huge mag wells, lasers, C-More dot sights, race holsters). Pretty much a class for the off the shelf pistols like Glocks, XD's, and Sigs. Then lastly there is "C" class which is considered "Competition" class where you can shoot anything you want. This is usually where USPSA Limited or Open guns play.
How to shoot the stage is dictated by the match director so there is no "Free Style" figure it out for yourself stage breakdown. You also get penalties for poking your gun through ports, door thresholds or not shooting from behind cover. You also can't "Air Gun" the stage as you walk through it. Some times they have a blind stage where you don't get to see it before shooting.
Its an interesting match to shoot. But if you like shooting USPSA matches you will feel very restricted. With the super high penalties it makes you earn your hits and think about your body position more than normal. Which isn't a bad thing.
when do they hold these matches?
First Friday night of each month. There is another one on some Saturday morning, but I'd have to check the website.
Thanks for info !
I was shooting there : http://www.triggertimegunclub.com/Home-48.aspx at saturday and noticed they gonna have a match next thursday.
I really like IPSC/USPSA freestyle, where you can maximize your strong points and minimize weak points.
It would just be so nice to shoot indoor matches, with that much snow outside :)

Of course it happens on the third Sat of the month. EVERYTHING haoppens on the third Sat of the month... [Rant1]
Sorry, as the (incoming) Pres. of the only USPSA club that runs their matches on the third Sat of the month, I'm bitter. I'll survive...

Hannu,
I shot in 3-4-10 match at Trigger Time. I had a blast. If you didn't make it to that one, it's a lot like IDPA, I call it IDPA lite. That being said, I have never shot ISPC.
If you didn't make it to last Thursdays match, I highly recommend showing up for the next one. It's a lot of fun, and it's great talking guns while waiting for your turn to shoot.

Now that I shook your hand a Trigger Time today, I know you were at last Thursdays shoot.
PM sent also.
Actually, I was there last thursday, but I did not participate the match... Had range reservation just before. Forgot the match and shot all of my ammo before it [Roll1]
Hopefully I am gonna remember better next thursday :)
question?
when are theses matches? once a month every week ect...? and are they open to the public non-members? thanks coop
You may want to make sure... But what I have been talking with TTGC people, they are at TTGC every thursday 6:00 pm. + they are open to public, you do not have to be club member to participate.
If you gonna call TTGC, ask Ken he is running those matches there.
ok thanks for the info i will check it out. ill plan to shoot next thur after my high power rifle practice. ill be on spring break thanks for the info.
Is there going to be a match tomorrow night? I have to go up to Longmont for work tomorrow and if they are going to have a match I might just come by and shoot it.
I am assuming that I can fit into some gun class that they have with my normal USPSA Limited gear?
well turns out i will be coming home tm if the roads are ok. i will be there!

That would be the right division. [Muaha]
I asked can I use my opengun, they said yes go ahead.
Training is the worst form of cheating, that is why I do not practice :)
I shot this match last night. Cool range with lots of potential. $15 match fee to shoot 5 rounds is too steep for me though. A timer to start you off shooting would also be nice. I am glad that I got to check out the range and match, but I don't think I will be back any time soon.

Your kidding right?
I wish I was kidding, but I am not. I don't want to dog the place as it looked like they are new at it and doing the best with what they knew how. I am sure they will get the kinks worked out of their program eventually. Its a place for people to shoot which is more than not having a place to shoot so I can't complain too much.
i was there too was a little steep for only shooting until you get knocked out. would have been nice if there was a losers bracket or you get two chances. o well maybe over time it will get better! i will still go once or twice since having it every week is nice cause i cant always make the fri night matches at BRC or other clubs since i compete in rifle matches more often.
i was the big guy in the white shirt shooting the 1911 was also running late to the match, name was Jon cooper.
not a bad pro shop they had a sig mag i was looking for that i haven't been able to find anywhere. the range is very nice brand new and the place feels like going to a nice club or something. you get what you pay for plus discount on product in the store idk how much but some sort of deal if you join as a member.

$15 match fee to shoot 5 rounds...
Wait you mean 5 bullets?!? holy moly why is that?

it was a knock out style match where it was speed shooting with two people at once you had to shoot two into the white paper two targets than hit the knockdown target which was a small metal disk. you only needed 5 rounds if you didn't miss if you lost you where out. i fired i think 12 or 10 rounds since i won the first match.

This really sounds like a range that's trying to find it's way around the shooting sports arena. Not all clubs out there have the advantage of having 3/4 of their staff or BOD being nationally ranked USPSA/IDPA/gamer extrordinare shooters and have to kinda find their way through all the ideas on what to do at a match. Shoot off's are a blast, but you have to structure it right or never get shooters. The current Eastern CO USPSA section coordinator does shoot offs every year, and that's the only format I've ever shoot that was fair across the board.
I hope the range is open enough to take good advise from active shooters and get their matches formatted to bring shooters in.
Maybe the next time someone is at this range they'll invite the people there to our matches?
