"Deer Creek Middle School is located at 9201 W. Columbine Dr. in Littleton, Jefferson County. It offers grades 7-8 and is 78 percent white and 8 percent Hispanic."

So "78% white and 8% hispanic"........ What does this have to do with anything with the shooting???

Irving
02-23-2010, 17:27
So when they say "adult" male, are we talking like 19 or 46?

It's way too early to tell anything but the basics. It's going to have to play out until the exact info is released. Take everything you hear right now with a grain of salt.

Brian it doesn't, they literally have no more information than anyone with Google searching for these things would have, and they're printing it.

Some high school kids keep doing burn outs in a riced out CRX up and down my street. I'm thinking about taking a shot at them with the garden hose.

When I was in High School (in the dark ages) we had race riots, shootings, knifeings, and beatings beyond comprehension. 2 dead 3 really fuked up. I got cut, and a freind stabbed.
We didn't have SWAT, and very little media coverage. The cops kicked ass, and the race riot thing never again came about at our school.
So with all the wonderful security we have now how the hell does this shit happen?

It is just crazy.
My wife works for a school district just south of us for a few schools.
Her office in one of the schools is the first door as you come in the building.
When someone comes in the building there is no one there to check you in, you have to go in the office. so you can just walk in and do as you want.
The teachers can not even have a small pocket knife, like the little swiss army knife is a no no. just crazy

Irving
02-23-2010, 18:33
In addition to attempted murder and bringing a firearm onto a K-12 school property, that guy should get tickets for operating a firearm within city limits and shooting at non-paper and non-metallic targets. Also for wearing camo pants.

Two news helicopters just passed over my office from the south heading north (basically up Kipling) so I imagine they all just cleared out.

i am waiting on more info on this cause from my understanding most schools now 9th grade and under are in lock down 24/7 all doors going in are locked besides when kids are dropped off and picked up, the schools i know of you have to press a button and they look at you from a camra and you have to state why you are there than they buzz you in. alot of the main glass doors are bullet proof too, but than again im up north in boulder county. this is what i had to do when i was a student aid.

Even though we had the Emily Keyes situation we can still go to the school and walk right in during school hours.

my senior year my old k-5th grade school did this every day i had to press the button. Even the schools here in NE have something in the same lines, out here there is a bullet proof class between you and the person and a speaker like you would find at a bank even a trofft or way to transfer papers with out contact pretty crazy! [Help]

Mtn Man is right im up north by boulder so there are plenty of people that will fork over the money up here.

what blows my mind is that boulder high school is right next to Gun sport the only gun store in boulder 100 yards not even from the school off 14th and arapohe?

Update: per the bus driver that watched the shooting and helped subdue the suspect informed the media that the rifle was a 30/30. The shooting took place outside the school at dismissal. Sounds like several staff members did thier part in getting this man down. Described as 20 something male.

That was my Junior high, and the second shooting there. There was a shooting early '80s when I went to school there. It was a feeder school to Columbine, but now to one of the new ones. My kids would have gone to school there if we had not moved.

Necessity legal defense based on self-defense... Would be virtually impossible to put 12 together to convict. Wouldn't be worth the DA's time.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. -- A seventh-grade math teacher is being called a hero. David Benke, a 6-foot-5 former college basketball player who oversees the school's track team, tackled the suspected gunman at Deer Creek Middle School as he was trying to reload his weapon."(The shooter) was trying to rack another round," Benke said. "I knew he couldn't get another round in before I got to him, so I grabbed him."

It must be a boulder thing, this is just what i have seen with my own two eyes it could just be the ST vrain schools have some of these systems in place at schools have not seen this in highschools though.

yeah there are a few schools out there that do it, but most of them do not. It usually tends to be the higher funded schools. Even then it would not stop someone from waiting outside in their vehicle getting out when school is over with kids everywhere.
It is very unfortunate. there really is no good way to stop things like this from happening, gun free zones are just safe houses from whack jobs and killers.

So someone is shooting kids at a middle school with a rifle and as a CCW holder you're questioning whether or not you can shoot?! Is there a more black and white situation for which you initially decided to carry a gun in the first place? BLAST THE F%#*ER! [AR15]

92.5 I think it was...scanning through the stations and they were talking about it. I mentioned CCW for teachers, and how schools are just safe houses for nut jobs. With budget cuts for police and schools, less safety about and more and more whack jobs going nuts after they lose everything, some well trained CCW teachers would at a minimum help deter criminals from coming to schools, plus give peace of mind that they have the opportunity to defend the students if necessary.

More about the math teacher that was a sheep dog when the wolf was inside the flock.

http://cbs4denver.com/local/david.benke.deer.2.1516270.html

Here are some quotes from Dr. Benke, the math teacher that tackled the shooter. Tell me this guy doesn't know something about guns:

"I saw that the guy had a rifle and then, unfortunately, he got another round off. I was walking towards him and then I realized that it was a bolt action rifle and that he wasn't going to be able to load quickly enough, and so I grabbed him," Benke said.

"What I noticed was that he was trying to manipulate the action of the rifle and that I had time to grab him before he could get another shot off. I didn't even think about whether he had a pistol or anything like that."

Note that he called it a rifle, not a gun, referred to a round, not a bullet, correctly observed (even under extreme duress) that it was a bolt action and recognized that reloading a bolt action wasn't exactly tactically expedient. He also correctly refered to the action of the gun. These are not the words of a shepple educrat.

We can all thank God that there was a sheep dog with the lambs that day. If he had been allowed to carry a pocket Glock I'm willing to speculate that their wouldn't be a second shot and the whack job would be on a morgue table instead of sucking up our tax dollars for the next 20 years. That's how the Israelis solved their school shooting problem a few decades back.

in addition to this, now look at airlines, passengers are already pissed, now they WANT someone to create a problem on an airplane so they can tackle them, beat the hell out of them and get called a hero for it.

Why are schools still closed? This was an isolated incident and they have the guy. What's the deal?

Spreading the public fear and making sure the kids are not "emotionally damage". Bunch of bull Q!$%^&&

I'd understand if a bunch of kids died and they were having memorials or something, but that isn't the case. If I my kid was attending those schools, I'd be calling and yelling at them.

Yes Sir, it's our PCness.... They have to give the kids the "correct amount of time to mourn" even though all the kids are thinking is "Yes!! No school today!"

I just question about the gun myself.

I find it difficult to buy that someone could be standing there with a full size 30-06 and the 2 kids he was talking with, and teachers in the area wern't aware of it.

My guess would be that he had chopped the barrel and stock down. If he removed the stock completely it would explain why he was having trouble reloading it. Not easy to work the action on a bolt-action without a stock.

And if it was cut down, odds are shorter than legal limits...yet another law that the criminal ignored. Add that to 2 counts of attempted murder, a firearm on school property, discharge within city limits...but I'm sure they will pass another law. They will do it for the kids.

At any average high school in America there are 100's of school kids walking around after class and a handful of adults. Most of my teachers were either still doing stuff back in their class rooms or bailed just as early as the kids did. If he had cut anything down, we would have heard about it by now. No need to further sensationalize this.

I agree with WETWRKS in that I expect to see more useless legislation come out of this.

How many local, state, and federal laws did Klebold & Harris violate in the Columbine shootings - yet folks SCREAMED to get more laws on the books.

I don't expect anything from this because I already don't hear about it anymore. However, I already can't trust and am no longer surprised by that bicycle crashing asshole, his supporters, and his friends.
