With all the interest on the Boost your Post Ct thread for HDRs, I thought It might be nice to have a separate thread dedicated to them. The BPC thread already takes forever to load, so I figured i'd be better to dump these pics here.

I didn't take these, a friend of mine did:

what exactly is HDR. I'm not a camera guy.

High Dynamic Range - it means a picture that captures all the contrast you would see in real life. Unfortunately, computer monitors are not able to show that contrast so must of the HDR pictures you see on the net are artificially colored in an attempt to show that same contrast on a screen.

They do it by taking multiple exposures of a target and then combining them.
IE 1 picture at normal setting. 1 picture that is overexposed but pulls detail out of shadows. 1 picture that is underexposed but pulls detail out of bright objects (sky, etc) and then they are all combined.

okay cool thanks for the breakdown. I definitely like the way they look when they seem to be done right. in the GD there were a couple that just looked much too fake.

Whereabouts where those photos taken, particularly the coastal ones?

I haven't taken any HDRs for a while but seeing those has definitely brought the urge back.

That last one's not mine, and it is a bit overprocessed, but I thought "what would an HDR AR-15 look like?" :D

I did some HDR in Southern Colorado last year. I'll have to find them and post them up. Fun stuff!
