http://caffertyfile.blogs.cnn.com/2010/03/03/should-gun-control-fall-under-to-state-and-local-law/?hpt=T2

Check out the article, which seems balanced (and mostly of the "What do you think?" variety)

More notably, check the comments... seems the majority are positive.

There are some real anti gun zealots in there too...
Like this:

If it were up to me we'd melt down all the guns in this country, and create a monument to all those needlessly murdered because of a misinterpretation of our rights. Creating an army to fight against outside forces doesn’t give us the right to take up arms against each other. Wait until gun nuts, full of hate and fear thanks to voting against their own best interests, who are being fueled by Beck, Limbaugh, etc. (traitors for profit), reach their breaking point.

Yeah - that would do it...
Then you'd be murdered by someone with a knife, so melt them all down...
Then clubs - so burn them all....
And then rocks ... wait... what to do with rocks.... the earth is made of rocks...
DESTROY the EARTH!
That will stop murder.

Most, not all, of the anti-gun statements are very poorly worded. This one make my head hurt.

Jack, If ever we could have a conversation devoid od emotion that would be a great day in America, However, that is not going to happen. I think gun control laws should be left up to the states and based on the constitution. With that said, a complete ban on hand guns, regardless of location is not going to solve the gun crime problem. Only effective enforcement of stringent gun sales and possession laws will!

This guy can't make up his mind. He contradicts himself twice in three sentences.

And this one made me weep for the US educational system:

The handgun band saved lifes
instead of 300 murders a year you have 200 or less
100 lifes is worth more then you can imagine
If you want to protect your home – purchase a hunting rifle and train your self how to use it
Dont be brainwashed by the other side

Yeah, I saw that garbage as well. There will never be a way to see eye to eye on this issue until people have been in both positions. If you haven't ever owned a gun, then please stop preaching about how you feel about it because it doesn't matter.

POST PULLED - EDIT:
I shouldn't dis on Norm Wattenberger in a public forum..
Or repost his address and phone number even IF he DID put it out there...
Or point out the fact that he has lost touch with common sense...
Even if the guy couldn't pour water out of a boot with instructions on the heel.
My bad.

wow, some of the comments amaze me. I still fail to understand the liberal and anti-gun mind.

No wonder there. If you don't think like them you won't understand them. Knee-jerk reactions and emotional tripe is easy to spew and impossible to defend.

Apparently "Dale" hasn't truly given much thought to having to use a long gun in the tight quarters of a home to provide personal protection for himself and his loved ones. Dumb @$$.

So many of those folks were raised with the belief that most people are good but the tools are inherently bad. They've learned from their families, friends, primary schools through colleges to villianize firearms. If these same people had been taught that getting rid of every match and lighter would prevent fires, they would be anti-match/lighter.

Too bad these people will never understand that the tool can make no choice in how it gets used and that it is up to the user to make the right choice. At the same time, these people think that those individuals that aren't "good" can be prevented from harming others by simply removing the tool. they fail to consider that the BG's will always find a way to spread their hate and violence.

We should probably ban drill bits and power drills... Mtn.Man was viciously attacked by one as we all know.... If they were illegal this never would have happened.[ROFL1]

if you outlaw power drills, then only outlaws will have power drills..

what's funny is I first learned this phrase at the age of 11 or 12... but then it was about sled dogs...

there was a drive to shutdown the Iditarod at the time, and so there were bumper stickers all round Alaska stating "if you outlaw sled dogs, then only outlaws will have sled dogs"

I've asked anti's before if they would outlaw hammers, nailguns, etc- where would it stop? the usually come back with something about guns being designed to kill people, then I let them know how many I have that have never killed anyone, some have only put holes in paper..

Strictly speaking, a fishhook is just as much strictly a weapon as a gun is.

I know you're joking, but there's still a growing "we have to protect you from yourself" mentality. It's because of true accidents like MtnMan's and the mentality I just mentioned that we have so many products removed from store shelves permanently and things like McDonalds coffee has warnings

and why KY Jelly says "For External Use Only. Do Not Eat!"

I do the same thing from time to time. The response I get is that I'm being rediculous. When I ask why I'm being rediculous, I'm told the same thing - guns are designed for one thing - to kill. I point out my comments are using the exact logic that they apply to guns and that I've owned and used hundreds of guns that have not only not killed anyone, they've never played a part in injuring anyone either. This is usually about the time I'm called something fairly unkind.

This is almost a daily battle with me. I argue back, but I'm kind, next thing you know I'm the crazy $%&* with all the guns that want to kill everyone. Apparently I'm a danger for wanting to protect myself according to these people. There is no wining with them... ever... in their mind.

As far as consumer labels go I believe they should leave the warnings off... it would probably thin the heard of stupid sheeple.
