View Full Version : Favorite Rimfire Gun
I have several but I love my bolt action Savage. Whats yours?
I've been trying to buy my little brother's Savage Mark II (pre-accu trigger) off him so I can thread it and put a better scope on it.
Also on the list is the kadet kit for my CZ.

Tough call. I have a 10/22 that is very accurate and a blast to shoot paintballs at 50 yards. Another 10/22 that has a collapsible stock, VFG, and red dot sight, very fun plinking with. Marlin 917V that I can shoot prairie dogs all day with. Two pistols that are also great for plinking. I guess I just love shooting. [Tooth]

I really like my 10/22, but my favorite is my Sig Mosquito in desert digi, should have a can on it in about a month! It shoots great, and Sig has the best customer service I've ever seen!

well we're in the same area, we'll have to get together at a shoot or something. I don't have any of these picky with ammo, FTF, FTE problems people babble about either. Plus it feels like a normal sized firearm in your hand! Awsome gun overall. I did have to send it back to Sig for a minor repair.... they sent me a shipping label and had it back in 1 week... all free. Very nice people to deal with.
If you ever have problems with your SIG Mosquito, I think most of them are remedied by tightening the screw under the take down lever.
well this is tough choice, between my 10/22, 1911 kimber conversion, and Sig 226 22lr conversion, and my browning medalist bullseye gun, and my USA H&R M12 bolt gun with redfield palma sights and olympic globe.hummm???
ill have to go with my M12 since i shoot it every wed during school year in NE.[Beer] http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o93/coopoloop68/IMG_2205.jpg

That was the first thing I did, it is supposed to be a fixed barrel and it was moving a little bit.... not good in my book. I figured tightening it up would help with accuracy so I went ahead with it.
That H&R looks very similar to my Mossberg 44US (a).
What kind of peep sight is that?

"redfield palma sights and Olympic globe" they where based in Colorado but went out of business a while ago for some issue in disposing waste or something with the machine shop. the CMP sold them with the sights it was a very good deal back than since the sights were as much as the gun it self! i bought mine last year form my small bore coach for a deal that i could not pass up. i know gunsport has two of them one with sights and one with out.
Sorry, I totally missed that.

HEY! That gun looks familiar. The guy you bought it from ran a Tac65. Although I think he would have gone thunderbeast or swr spectre if done again so as to be able to run it on magnum guns. The spectre is my favorite, nice because of disassembly ability also.

I think mine would be my Remington 541X. I picked it up new in the box (surplus) from the CMP back in the late '90's. It's a lot of fun. Although, my Ruger MkII S/S Competition model with all Volquartsen guts is another possibility. I shoot it every week from October until April for Winter League Bullseye competition.

I've got a number of .22s:
Marlin Golden 39A
Ruger 22/77
Ruger MKIII with full Volquartsen guts
Walther P22 threaded for can (Warlock)
Walther PPK/S .22
Sig .22 conversion for Sig P226 threaded for can (Warlock)
All are fun to shoot, but I'd have to say it's a toss up for favorite .22 between the Sig conversion and the Walther PPK/S .22. The Walther is just a hoot to shoot and very satisfying for those of us that grew up with James Bond. The Sig is also fun to shoot and the conversion kit is very accurate. My IDPA scores have improved dramatically just from the extra practice I'm getting at .22 prices vs. 9 or .40.

My favorite would have to be my Remington 514 single shot. Is old, beat up, and was a gift from a dear friend of mine (and also my first gun when I was 15) I'll be returning the favor this coming week though. Bought him a SA 1911 and got it engraved. I'll post pics when I pick it up tomorrow. Great new thread!
I really like my 10/22. I don't have a picture with the scope, but this setup is so accurate and the 3/6oz two stage trigger is like buttah.

My favorite rimfire by far is my Marlin model #39 carbine. It was built in 1957 and my dad purchased it that same year. It has about a quadrillion rounds through it and still shoots nickle size groups at 50 yds. That little rifle has taken more rabbits, prairie dogs, skunks, and raccoons than the rest of my rimfires combined. Thats saying something because I've hosed tons of vermin with my 10/22, but the little Marlin still has done more.

Just the overall feel of it, Its not as heavy in hand which I like to tell you the truth, but never the less it just feels like the rugers are more solid. But anyone can take this one down and its not a puzzle to get back together like the rugers so i think they are pretty equal

My Favorite .22 would have to be the Jager AP 74 that I had back in the real early 80's. I shot so many bricks of .22 through it I could have built a wall.
Wish I still had it.

my favorite is a remington model 514. it is a single shot bolt action with a 24" barrel, open sights. cocks on closing, very simple gun. i found it under a bunk bed at the family cabin when i was in high school. no one claimed it so it became mine. it was very rusty, stock looked bad, but after i cleaned it up it shot great. then i stripped the stock and found out that it had a really beautiful piece of walnut. i completely stripped the metal, getting some phosphoric acid from my chemistry teacher. completely redid the finish on the wood and metal. the cold blue has since worn off mostly, and my dumbass brother who was too cheap to buy his own guns took a chunk out of the awesome stock. i have had it now for 23 years, i still shoot it quite a bit.

I really like my 10/22, but my favorite is my Sig Mosquito in desert digi, should have a can on it in about a month! It shoots great, and Sig has the best customer service I've ever seen!
+1
Just picked one of these up and it's a great gun to shoot! Nice full sized feel and pretty damn accurate on sites - easily plinked targets at 30 yards with it.
One gun I really love is my Henry AR7 Survival Rifle, that thing is awesome and very accurate. It took about 300-400 rounds to loosen it up enough to stop stovepiping on me, but it's fun as hell to shoot and always gets comments (as it breaks completely down and stores in it's own water tight and floating stock). I just picked up another 15 magazines for it for extended plinking fun :).
I was just reading about that rifle the other day. Pretty cool.

Mine, up until recently, was my Remington 541X as noted in a previous post. However, I picked up an M&P 15-22 mostly for the kids (I thought) and when I was sighting in the red dot I put on it, kind of got hooked. That thing's a blast! And with a little massaging, the trigger is pretty good now too. I also have a Springfield Scout M6 that's a lot of fun too, although the trigger sucks on it.

I had an Armalite AR-7 (before the tragic boating accident). It's definitely an older model compaqred to many of the Henry AR-7's out there. I only has iron sightes and no way of attaching a scope (the Henry's, at least the newer ones, have a grooved receiver rail which can accept a scope).

That's what I have. I picked up a cheap $35 scope at Sportsmans for it just for fun and it's pretty darn accurate with that thing.
My favorite 22 rimfire is my Kimber Classic, bolt action from Yonkers,N.Y.
It came with a 5 shot .238 group @ 50 YDS. and AA Clario walnut stock. It also comes with 5-shot mags.
Does anybody know why Kimber stopped producing them?

ive had a stock 10/22 a built 10/22 a chippa 1911-22, and shot my friends ruger mkII, the sig 522 i just got blows them all out of the water for what i use a 22lr for
I've had a lot of them over the years but my all time fvorite is my Marlin 39a
For me I'd have to say my S&W 41. It never fails to amaze me how it fits my hand like a glove.
I have a friend who has one of those Tac-Sol Xring custom thimgys. It's pretty darn nice and shoots fantastically well. I just can't bring my head around spending close to a $1K for a rimfire.
