View Full Version : 5th Annual Fun Shoot
It's that time of year again folks, It's time to pick a date for the 2010 CO-AR-15 Shooters Club 5th Annual Shot Gunners Fun Shoot! The event will be held at Colorado Clays Shooting Range http://www.coloradoclays.com/index.php (http://www.coloradoclays.com/index.php) and they’re open to the public and memberships are not required. CO. AR-15 Club Members, Family & Friends are all welcome to join us in a fun filled day of Sporting Clay Shooting. Don’t worry beginners and first time shooters will be mixed in with more experienced groups. Non- Shooter, Spectators, and Score keepers are welcome. Gun Club and Range Safety Rules Apply and will be posted at a later date. A variety of Clay Target Shooting is available Trap, Skeet & Sporting Clays. We prefer to shoot the Sporting Clay Course, (similar to golf where each group moves between stations 1 thru 15.) Scores are kept on a score sheet but, they are meaningless because we’re just shooting for fun. We’ll Shoot 2 (two) rounds sporting clays with a lunch break in the middle. You may choose to shoot only one round or stay for both. The first round starts about 9:30am – 10:00am with Lunch around Noon and the last round starts about 1:00pm and is described as the (Evil Black Shot Gun Round) but if you don’t have one don’t worry shoot whatever you got it’s okay. We usually plan it in May or June on a Saturday from 9:00am to 2:30pm or so. Please let us know if you would like to attend and how many. I’ll check with Colorado Clays and see what their event Calendar looks like so I can post a couple of dates to choose from. Majority rules on which day it will be held. [Clays][Clays][Clays]

I definitely want to try and make it this year. Sundays are best for me due to kids sporting events on Saturdays.
I might be able to make it.
Mid April thru mid June blows for me.
so what are the differences between skeet, trap, and sporting clays?

Can probably make this, I'll ask the GF, she wants to learn and we got her a shotgun... it's nicer than mine...

so what are the differences between skeet, trap, and sporting clays?
Skeet has 2 houses that thrown high and low that you move around in a semi circle. very close fast shots.
Trap has 1 house that throws away from you and you only move 5 stations. More straight away shooting with further shots.
Sporting clays throws a mix of field condition type shots. Rabbits, minis, overhead shots, fast and slow, doubles. It is set up similar to a golf course for shotguns.
this is a very simple explanation it is a little more elaborate, but these are the basics.
Hey Hoser, [Help] Could you use your super special "Moderator" powers to put a sticky on the origanal thread and add it to the gen forums and maybe add a poll to determine the date? Something like .... Which day do you guys perfer Saturdays or Sundays? I can set it up for either day. Early April sounds good to me. Maybe April 4th (Sat) or April 5th (Sun) Or the following weakend April 10th (Sat) or 11th (Sun)?
Thanks

I might be up for this, depends on timing...
Let us know what works for you.
Well I talked to Mark at Colorado Clays and he said the 10th of April was pretty open if we wanted to do it that day so, what do you think? 4/10/10 for the Fun shoot? Shall we start a list? (Add your names, Copy & Paste then repost)
1. Wallary and a possible 3 or 4 more friends.
2.
I'm in for 4/10 and maybe one more. Now I have a date to complete the conversion of my S12 by. It will be entertaining to load 2 rounds into a 20 round drum [ROFL2]
1. Wallary and a possible 3 or 4 more friends.
2. FastAl and at least 1 more, maybe 2 or 3
3.
I think I can do the 10th, check to see who I can get to go with me.

I'll put it on the callender, would love to do it again this year.
Do we need a particular type of shotgun? Haven't done sporting clays before so I will try to make it. Can the wifey come just to watch? She probably won't shoot though, doesn't "like" the shotty.

4. BigBear - and maybe the wifey and a friend.
I will go if it could be done on the 9th! I never get weekends off! I will do what I can to try to get the 10th off, but my chances are pretty slim due to work.

As far as shotgun goes, 12ga, 20ga are all good. If you want to make things hard on yourself you could even try a .410. Must have at least a two round capacity.
Last year I shot two rounds with my Sagia-12. Overall it worked but there were some long shots that I just couldn't make. So longer barrel is a plus.
We had a couple people watch last year also.
Any update on this/Is it a go?

Will the cost be the same as what is posted on the C.S.C. web site? I would like to put together a group of Five.

The first round costs $36.00 and the second round is $30.00. Bring your own lunch if your shooting both rounds we'll take a break between rounds.

Just picked up some gold plated 16ga ammo $$, and some cheap 20ga for the kiddo or whomever I can bring with that wants to shoot a couple times. I'm planning on coming...
Last question, about how many rounds will be needed for this?
Thanks,
Last question, about how many rounds will be needed for this?
Thanks,100 shells per round if I remember correctly. Though I suggest bringing a couple extra shells. Last year we had one guy drop a shell from one of the tower stands and couldn't find it.
100 per round... which brings another question... do I need a vest/backpack/etc to carry all the rounds?
Ok, ok. I'll be quiet. See you guys Saturday.
And ANOTHER question: I have three chokes for my shotty... so which one are we supposed to use on sporting clays? hehe.

Use whatever choke makes sense for that stage.
Never done stages or sporting clays, hence the question... I'll bring them all then. Thanks.

If the targets are far away, use a tighter choke. Close up in your face, use an open choke.
I just cheat and use a light mod.
So I can just keep in the medium one and call it good? That's the one that's been in it for years... Ha, I've never used the other chokes.
We'll see you there fellers, I'm in the Dark Brown Ford Edge and will be wearing my AR-15 Shooters club hoodie. [Clays]
Got called in this morning. Uncle Sam doesent seem to care when I have plans...
Missed you guys. Hope everyone had fun.

To bad, was a good time. (the first round anyway)
Thanks to Wallary and wife for the invite and keeping score. Thanks for letting my friend take a couple shots too.
Good to see Al_G too.

I had a good time yesterday. Doing sporting clays with a muzzle break equipped Sagia-12 is quite entertaining [Tooth]

how'd it work for you? better or worse? (for clays anyway)
how'd it work for you? better or worse? (for clays anyway)Better, got 5 more clays with it and didn't have a single malfuction.
We had fun shooting with you guys yesterday, enjoyed every minute of it (beats sitting on the couch that's for sure!) We'll try to set up another shoot this summer. I think we should try out some of the other games they have there like Trap, Skeet, and Colorado Wobble Trap. KC I owe you 4 bucks because they didn't charge us any extra for all the extra clays we used. I'll catch you next time or PM me and I'll get it to you. Al thanks for letting me shoot your Sagia, that thing looks like a beast but it's really pretty smooth. See ya later! [Beer] I'll post pics later!
A few pics for ya!

This last one is kinda cool, Kelly is about to shoot the Green Clay coming up from the lower left corner and there are still a few pieces of the Orange Clay he just hit flying through the air above.
