Am I the only one here that has grown disenchanted with how folks are on AR-15? I have slowly stopped going on there and even let my membership renawal pass. I have some reasons as to why I am disenchanted with the site, but overall I am just curious if I am alone in this thought process or others have simular feeling.
What say the rest of you who have or are still on there?

Fixed the grey area that could go either way as to bashing or not.

I prefer the AR15 as opposed to AR-15 [Tooth]

Each site has its own unique user base, pros and problems. We do not allow "bashing" any firearm sites though, discussion is okay.

All I'll say is - try putting a dash after the "R" and see if your personal experience improves. [Tooth]

I do surf the GD over there a bit, but lately I, er, have become dissapointed as well. Good value in the rest of the site. I rarely get into the hometown forum...'cause I'm always here!

I've only posted there once. Don't really care for the snobbery there.

It's kinda funny but I go there for the sub forums more than AR related stuff.

I haven't bothered with that site since I found this one. I like the folks here MUCH better. The only other site like this that I visit with any frequency is the M-14TFL site.

ARFCOM is a great site. lots of excellent info, write ups, ammo information and gun related feedback. if you feel like going into the GD be prepared for some of the dumbest remarks, ridiculous ideas, and basically plan on going in there like you would head into a bar to have a legitimate conversation with a retarded drunk man.

The prices are generally fair, lots of dealers who support the site. It is a pro-gun site, what else can you ask for?

People don't start "banned from arfcom" clubs on other sites for no reason. I personally haven't been in any arguments because I've never even been to the rifle part of the site. No AR-15 = no reason to go.

there are definitely some questionable banishments from the site, but if you keep your nose clean and just stick with the equipment exchange and actually think about what you post ahead of time it is a great place.

I agree, funny pictures good write ups.

BTW: COLTS ARE NO.1 RRA suck, only Noveske are worth a damn, if you don't believe me you'll get banned.[ROFL1]

I never felt comfortable on that site and was disappointed by the attitude of a lot of the posters there. I havent been to that site in well over a year - except to view a pic that was linked from that site.

Arfcom (a friend likes to call it AR15chan) is an interesting study in large internet communities. I think there is a limit to how large an internet community can get before quality drops off tremendously.

Simply put, the noise : signal ratio is way off. Minus very aggressive moderation (and many people think that the arfcom mods are far too aggressive already, but its obvious they aren't getting this job done) there will always be more people with dumb opinions who will blab about it than people with knowledgeable opinions who will explain it. Understandably, as well, the knowledgeable folks get irritated and tired of explaning the same (to them) basic concepts to new guy after new guy, sometimes a "know-it-all" new guy who insists that there is a place for bayonet training in a carbine course (remember THAT Pat Rogers blowup and how he just stopped posting for a good while?)

Managing large inet communities is really a full time, professional job and I don't think any large community (not just gun community but all types) has gotten the hang of it. For this reason I typically just don't even bother with large internet message boards.

This is not an AR15.com bash, but a more general observation about large internet communities, particularly message boards.

I agree with previous posters that there is a wealth of information on ARFCOM, I used it extensively when I first got back into guns, I even paid for a membership which I have let lapse. I haven't been there for over year because I have found other sources that better fit my needs.

Sniper7 said it very well. There's a lot of very good info and resources on there, but I avoid posting anything on there like the plague. Simply because of the retards who never seem to have anything constructive or worthwhile to say, but say it anyway. More hassle than it's worth to me.

basically if you don't own a daniel defense, larue, or colt ar15, you might as well not post on the rifle part of the forum. after all, all other ar15's are worthless when "SHTF" scenarios come up, since all of us have those happen at least once a week.

most there think the more money you drop, the cooler you are and the more "leet". its pretty ridiculous. i used to post there right when i first got into ar's and just asked some general questions. some of the answers were about as rude as it comes. and this, mind you, is after searching for threads already discussing the topic and on questions that weren't completely noobish.

finally, as i have said on here before, i got banned for about the stupidest reason ever. i was buying a cheap, cheap spotting scope for a friend, sent like a $40 money order, or something around that, never got to the guy. instead of asking me, he opens up a complaint thread which i was alerted to, so i sent him a message asking what gives. since i didn't put delivery confirmation on it i said ok, my fault, ill send you another one. but no, he didn't want that so i was banned for "welching" on a deal. i asked a mod about it later and he said i had to resolve it with the guy and i was like yeah i freaking said id send an entirely new one, thus paying double for a POS scope. but apparently that wasn't good enough. its stupid. i had done like 15 deals on there before flawlessly.

anyways, aside from that they do have some nice guys, probably about 1%, who actually know their stuff and are willing to help. otherwise its a complete waste of time and really will just most likely piss you off more than anything.

the exchange forum is the only thing worth your time on there, they do have some good stuff sometimes

ARFCOM and Glock Talk are two parts of the interweb that I stay away from. Sure, there is good info but the amount of garbage that one has to go through to get the nugget just isn't worth it. [Ninja] [Train]

There are much better tech sites out there. This being one of them. :)
