I finally bought a Glock 21SF (after missing out on several deals here and on other sites, usually by only a few minutes) and had a chance to take it out to the range. The softness of the recoil really blew me away (wait, is that oxymoronic?). My last .45ACP was an Ed Brown that was a fantastic piece of machining. However, it seemed to have pretty significant muzzle flip relative to other .45's I've owned (USP45F, Kimber Custom II, Kimber TLE II). I guess it's because it had less weight up front with the standard guide rod and plug, and didn't have the USP's internal system to absorb recoil. Not really sure. Anyway, I ended up trading it to another guy here because I wasn't very fast with it, and it cost too much to not get shot much. With the G21SF, my follow-up shots seemed much faster than with the Brown, and faster than the other .45's, too. I am still getting used to the grip shape and angle, after having not owned a Glock in a few years, but so far, I think I am really going to like this one. The prior owner put a fiber optic front sight on it, which was pretty cool as well. I'll probably change out the stock WO plastic rear to a two dot metal version at some point. I'll probably also put Agrips on it, too, as I really like how those transformed the feel of my Kahr PM9. The bottom line is that this Glock may just oust my Python at my bedside.
Now, I need to find a holster for it and a tac light. For plastic, I understand that Fobus is ok for general use, like woods carry, but that blade-tech, blackhawk and sidearmor are better (though I don't need any retention system other than a friction fit). I prefer OWB designs that keep the butt pressed up against me, rather than hanging out where it tends to get hit. Thoughts on what would fit the bill? I loved my old leather DeSantis Speed Scabbard with the 1911, but don't know how they hold the heavy butted Glocks. Bob Hazel of Hazel Leather here in Denver also makes a high quality product, and I may go with him--he made a nice OWB pancake for my CZ-75BSA.
What about tac lights--anything out there that is small, bright, not crazy costly, and has a remote switch? Or is it a "pick 2 or 3 out of the 4" situation?
