"OSLO, Norway – Two years after receiving its first deposits, a doomsday seed vault on an Arctic island has amassed half a million seed samples, making it the world's most diverse repository of crop seeds, the vault's operators announced Thursday."

I saw a piece on this yesterday. Their idea of Doomsday seems to be if there's some sort of disaster that wipes out the plant species. I'm wondering what everyone's gonna REALLY do if that happens, 'cause I don't think we'll have time to wait for everything to grow.......

Im kinda thinking if something does happen and causes a so called doomsday, I am not overly optimistic the planet will have anything that survives besides bacteria etc. [NoEvil]

I eat meat! I'm currently stocking ammo of all calibers. Can't say I'm the most diverse repository but I'm getting there!

Yeah, but the critters made of meat usually eat vegetation. That sort of puts a kink in things, if all the meat critters die off.......

Well it's the press who have labeled it the doomsday vault, I think. If you read the article, it's actually called the Global Seed Vault. And I didn't realise that it's actually a backup to the 1400 other seed vaults around the world.

I have a goal. I want to drink one of every different kind of beer that I can. Unless I happen to get more than one of each type........

Even if a few folks do survive such a scenario, AND they have access to one of these vaults, who says the soil will be capable of growing anything?

I believe that Kansas City, MO has one of those vaults - down by where my dad used to work.

Do yourself a favor, skip the Red Stripe and most (if not all) of the African beers! [Puke]

I'll eat animals that eat animals. After they are gone I'll just take a fuckitol and kick back. My innards will give before I can eat every carnivore available anyways.

GunTroll! Dang I miss having you back here! We don't see you nearly enough around this site.

Yeah. I'm still around. I'm here often but don't post as much. I'm not as found of the TN equivalent of this site. I'll long distance post more often.

Beans and bullets! Forget seeds! Besides......once your neighbor starts growing you can offer your vegetable protection services for a share of the crop. Just saying.

Yeah GunTroll, but don't let your neighbors grow corn - they'll just use it in their stills and you won't have anything to eat.

My in-laws live in KY and my wife has extended family that produces shine. I've been wanting to get some for years, BUT my in-laws are ultra Southern Baptist and anti-alcohol and would not approve if I was to make contact with these other relatives. So, being the good son-in-law that I am, I don't get any shine!

Priorities, Ginsue. It's all about priorities.

Make sure when you get that shine, you remember your old pal Troublco......
