Just as the title says, which surplus pistols do you guys have and which is your favorite? The reason I ask is that I have been wanting to get a surplus pistol for a while now and cannot figure out which one to get. I have thought about a cz-82, sig p6, polish p64, even police trade-in glocks. The purpose of this pistol would be just to have fun with at the range, maybe practice changing out springs on something other than one of my new gun. I think it might be cool to learn how to refinish on one as well. The websites I have been browsing are aimsurplus.com, jgsales.com and summitgunbroker.com. What websites have you guys found your gems on?

CZ-52 best that the commies could come up with since the AK-47

Have owned 2 kinds of Mak's. a PA63, P64, CZ52 and shot a CZ82. I need to pick up an 82. Got rid of the PA63 and P64. The 52 is not exactly practical but it is fun to shoot.

There really aren't too many cz52's floating around on the internet anymore and I don't know of any dealer local that sells surplus firearms. I don't have my c&r so it does not have to be c&r elligible. I want to find a diamond in the ruff so to speak. When I was researching the sig p6 I found people were getting them for 260ish and now they are 350, which even at that price still seems decent. From what I have read the cz82's are pretty sweet shooting pistols, I just questions the 9x18 round. I think I am going to find a police trade-in glock seeing as I do not have one. How is 40s&w ammo out there? I never really look for it, but I hope it is not as bad as 45.

Check www.cdnnsports.com for a great source of crazy weird guns. You have to down load their catalog.

I have a P6, and I like it a lot. Old SIG quality. But I also have a couple of others that I really like: a Star Model Super, and a Nagant revolver. The Nagant is probably the most interesting, just because of how it works. The Star shoots great, but the P6 is the easiest to feed since it's a 9mm.

I really like the HK P7 PSP's and the Sig P6's. But, the P7 gets too hot to shoot unless you have it in rotation with 3 or more guns. The P6 is cool, especially after the way-too-heavy mainspring is changed out.

What defines a surplus pistol. Cheap, out of production?

Do you have a nagant, ive always been interested in what people have actually shot trough them.... as the nagant ammo is expensive, and the gas sealing is pretty odd

Not to talk out of turn, but I had a Nagant for a while. It was pretty cool design-wise, but the trigger pull was awful. You can use commercial ammo in it, too, but they dosn't have the gas seal. Reloading is also an issue with the gas seal ammo, as the neck gets overworked pretty fast. I basically played with it for a few months, and let it go to a collector.

I picked up a Swiss trade-in Sig P228. Gotta say I love it. Some good things to note about picking up a surplus P228, many of the parts and the mags are interchangeable with the Sig P229 (which of course is still in production) so you can change out pretty much anything you want. There are a couple places out there that stock the parts like the extractor and hammer springs that only work in the older Sig pistols.

I feel that this pistol will probably outlast me.

Also, I would say that some of the benefits listed above applies to a P225/P6 as well.

I don't think you could go wrong with either of those pistols. You would just have to pick: single-stack or double-stack grip and mags[Awesom]

Here's mine:

Good luck in finding something.

Thanks everyone for your advice and tips. I didn't even end up getting a surplus pistol, I ended up going with an FN FNP9. Don't worry either, I will post pics as soon as I get it. I am still considering picking up a cz82, but the price I got on this pistol was just too good to pass up.

Glad your happy with what you got. A beautiful thing about America is you aren't limited to just one gun so start your collection and you can offer advice to others.

What was the great price? Just curious. Looking forward to a review or report on it.

Budsgunshop.com has the dark earth for 379 NIB, including shipping. That's the cash price 3% extra to use a card. Came to 395 with shipping insurance!

Wow, very nice price!

My theory is they are getting rid of the old models for the new FNX9 model coming out.

I really like the Sig P6 as well. Has never malfunctioned. And the price was right.

Anyone know of any P6's for sale around Denver metro? Gander used to have them at a good price (surprise, surprise), but now they mostly have P7 PSP's. Thanks.

Pick up an issue of Shotgun News and have your favorite gun store do an FFL transfer on them. I have seen J&G sales advertise them in that magazine.

I'm going to the range tomorrow, so I have not shot this gun yet. I do like the ergonomics of the pistol, I used the rounded back strap instead of the flat one. The trigger pull seems nice, but I will know more after shooting it. I just wanted to post a picture up.

Picked up a brand new SA 1911 GI 4" cheep and I am having a great time with it. Gotta love the all steel frame & slide. Very basic action, lends very little to the imagination
