View Full Version : Dope grower or sting?
I can't find the thing anymore, it must have expired or whatever they do on that Craigslist thing, but in my search for a little motorbike for my sons I ran across a weirdly written ad. I'm recreating from memory, so it's probably not at all accurate -
Almost new minibike, one year old, runs great. Terrorize your neighbors. $250 (that's a new price, sounds like a gun-show guy so far)
Will trade for hipowerd rifles: .270, .30-06 or other, instruments, airline miles, 400w or 1000w hps bulbs for indoor gardeners
Am leaving the area, must be gone by Saturday.
I ran across 3 different ads by the same guy, only one of them had the "bulbs for indoor gardeners" but all wanted to trade for rifles. Am I paranoid, or does this sound a little ... oh hell, exactly like a pot grower looking for guns?

Dopers with guns! What is the world coming to? I bet none of those types are on here?!
Might be starting a "Medical" marijuana bussiness.. Might want to "defend" it, form the lower forms of life...
Just one thought...

Growers in Northern California are well armed. Yes its ironic, militant growers and hippies coexisting on common commodity. I've heard the Mexican Cartels presence is becoming quite strong there.

You guys sound pretty paranoid to me. Guy seems legit! 'Sides, they're just looking for a little protection. Maybe they just want to go hunting? (the competition......)
(And swine shall aviate themselves out of the feedlot tomorrow!!!)
[ROFL1]
lot of people looking for those on there right now

Looks like a situation in the making of not breaking any state laws but ending up in federal prison for life. Unless he's an illegal. Then he'll just get a free bus ticket home.

I have to say that back in the day the only people that carried were people selling pot. This was 35 years ago (wow, I am getting old) but you never saw people carry guns that sold acid or ludes or coke. Just saying....
If you have to ask just assume it is
I've never questioned anyone that I've sold a gun to... to whom I've sold a gun... that has bought a gun from me... anyway, even if the bike was reasonably priced, his urgent need to be out of town by Saturday coupled with the grow lights just left me feeling there was something not right.
I certainly don't care if someone is using privately, it's not hard to clean up Doritos crumbs, but I also really don't want 9News doing a segment on how I'm The Gun Show Loop Hole after a DEA raid.

Oh, good heavens. Can you imagine if they had been carrying - and using their own product? Hallucinations while armed! Disaster in the making. THey'd wouldn't have had any customers left alive.

They should be armed in case they cap the competition with their 9's...
But seriously it is certainly weird and even more werid that you cant find it again
Well, the not finding it again could be me. I had a direct link to a different one that was later sold and the link is dead now. I doubt they archive dead ads. Or maybe the guy changed it. He had at least 3 others for some damn reason, at least it looks to me like these are the same guy -

maybe his/her lease was up and they should have been moved last week. Death in family out of state, with no return date as they were executor of will?
by reading too deep into an ad sounds like a VPC person concerned about where the guns come from. use this ad below as an example.

Needs to sell ASAP. does this mean they are in tight finanical straits, divorced and spouse's lawyer wants payment, OR they killed their spouse and need to get away quick, OR robbed a house and want to move the stolen items??????
THE reason it was removed is due to those majic ban words Firearms/rifles etc. the craigslist peace sign/policy is nothing firearms related.
FWIW
if you're real quick, and can deciper the wording, you can score some decent guns off CL
one guy just advertised an ACP home security system with extra magazines.
that one lasted 3 min before being flagged/removed

Shit...If I were an MMJ grower, I'd have round the clock armed guards. Or perhaps motion activated mini guns...
you would be surprised at the guys growing weed.

I like the idea of the mini-guns. I'd like to get that for my yard right now - just 'cuz!

A couple like the ones they used in Aliens would be cool. Radar controlled. Of course, there wouldn't be many bunnies left for the dogs to chase. And how the heck do you keep them from shooting the dogs?
