View Full Version : One Second After - The Book
I just read One Second After, started at a little 11AM today and finished it about 2:40PM. I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN.
I skipped lunch and didn't drink any water either, those are things I always do.
Awesome book. Incredible. I'll have to read it a few more times.
How long is it? The last book I read in one day was R.L. Stein. I'm not a very fast reader.
It was 345 pages. I am a voracious reader if I get a book like this one, it just held my attention completely.
I really like to eat and I SKIPPED lunch, I NEVER skip lunch.
I need to decompress some.

It reads fairly quick, and keeps your attention. overall a good book. I read it over 3 or 4 days just a little bit here and there.... but it is hard to put down.

O and there is a picture on the cover!
Is it a normal priced book too? I know that Unintended Consequences is like $60 used right now.

I think I payed 15-19$ when I bought it a month ago.
That's normal priced. Except I hear that those suckers up in Canada are paying $23-$27 for it. Outrageous!

glad I don't live in Canada eh.
It was $14.99 at B&N.
There are no pictures but it works wonders on the imagination.

"Lights Out" is another good one. It was available online only but the author has inked a deal so I have not been able to find it. I may have a PDF copy saved around here someplace. Found it. If someone would like a PDF copy drop me a line.
Anybody care to lend it out??
what's it about?
EMP blast over the US, sending everyone into the middle ages.
Pretty frightening read. Read it last summer on vacation. Really gets you into the mood for long-term preps.
Some parts of it was annoying, though. The main character in the book writes the end all be all book for the gov't on EMP characteristics, so much so that it becomes the .gov standard go to guide, and yet the guy doesnt notice the effects of the attack until a day or two later?

You're close by, I can loan you mine in a week or thereabouts. I want to get another read out of it first.

I read it a few months ago, good book. The story starts out bad, ends worse, enjoy.

I don't read books but it sounds interesting so here's to hoping it comes out in movie format. [ROFL2]

Knowing hollywood, if it comes out in a movie it'll have matt damon riding a bicycle to the rescue with a beach ball.
It was a great read, you might also try the library I seem to get books from them more and more these days

Sorta sounds like Dies The Fire by S.M. Stirling (http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Dies-the-Fire/S-M-Stirling/e/9780451460417/?itm=2&USRI=dies+the+fire). This book had the same effect on me that I'm hearing others say about One Second After. Dies The Fire is actually book 1 of a 4 book series, and there is a second series based off of the characters from the first series (later in time). It also talks about some of the things you'll face and how to protect yourself as well as other survival issues. The one thing about the Dies The Fire series is that there is a change in the laws of physics that comes with the burst ("The Change"). This change renders unusable electricity, combustion power, firearms and explosives.

...in 3D!
co-starring Maggie Gyllenhaal, Tracy Morgan & Shrek.

LOL.
I don't know who these other people are though. I guess Shrek is a cartoon character.
