Trying to join the Guard after being off active duty for seven years and lets just say I have added some padding. I have to go through basic and ait again, I have been doing ok at getting ready but if anyone around the Ft. Collins area military or not wants a running partner I could use some help. I need to drop some weight quick cause I want to ship ASAP! I am trying to watch my diet and workout, but with kids and a stressful physical job my lunch diet doesnt always workout. Thanks.

P90X...

I did 90 days of it while in Iraq and came back in better shape than any other time of my life. My running didn't suffer a bit. It acutally got better and I wasn't running regularly.

Fiber. Lots of fiber

to much fiber can do more damage to your intestinal/digestive track than less fiber will.

Why do you have to go through basic again? AIT, I understand especially if your re-classing, but basic? Thats not what I was told when I inquired.

Or if you dont want to pay the $120 for P90x, you can always do the work out of the day at www.crossfit.com (http://www.crossfit.com)

If you didn't live so far north, I'd tell you to make sure to make as many Red Rocks work outs as you can. That'd do it just fine, and it's free.

Small changes you could make would be drinking tons of water to ensure you are fully hydrated (half your body weight in ounces plus 20oz is a good start). Then your stomach will be fuller and you'll be less hungry. If it's ice cold water, it'll help boost your metabolism as your body will have to warm the water before it can process it.

Swap out black pepper in meals for cayenne pepper. The Cayenne is hot enough that it also kicks up your metabolism up a notch.

If possible, eat 5-6 small meals per day instead of 2-3 large meals. Helps your metabolism stay running all day and you can actually process the food from each meal instead of some of it and then just passing the rest.

But all of that is to just help you lose those last 10 lbs. If you are wanting to get into better shape while losing weight, you'll need to start working out more often and stick to your plans (but don't forget the ever important day of rest).

I've heard nothing but amazing things about P90x, but the reason it works is because it keeps your muscles guessing daily. Whereas doing a weight lifting regime just builds on certain muscle groups, the P90x works EVERY muscle. So try and do something similar like that of changing the workout around so you aren't getting used to it and then your body just stops losing weight.

Good luck!

I checked out their website. I have been drinking a gallon of water plus a day, gym 3-4 days a week and running. I am getting closer, according to the "tape test calculator" if I could ad 1" to my neck I would be golden. I found alot of interesting info on passing the tape test on the web. I will be looking at the cross fit more, but I still have to work on my 2 mile times in the mean time. At my old age I get like 17:42 to run it in for my 60%, I guess age has its benefits. Of course we all know 60% isn't good enough!

Crossfit is amazing if you do it. Based on my own experience and others I know, you're running times will decrease...even without running. The cardio load on most of the daily workouts is so intense that it will improve your ability to run, even though most of the WOD's don't actually include running. I've been doing CF for about 4 months now, and I now consider days when I just run as rest days.

If you do pursue CF, take some time to work up to the prescribed workout. It's intended for elite athletes and will almost certainly injure someone who's fitness level is not very high. I was damn fit when I started, and I ended up blowing up both biceps. The other three guys I know who are doing it all had similar experiences. Scale the workouts and stop at the first sign of abnormal or "bad" pain.

It's a fantastic program, just be smart about it. I wish I had been.

don't forget puttting that heater on your back and logging some miles. Staying at a 15 min/mile pace will help. As far as the 2 mile run, try this: It is usually administered on a 1/4 mile track: sprint the straightaways and coast out the turns. Using this, I got my barely 13 min 2 mile par time to almost 11:30. My team started the same and all blew 13 minutes out of the water.

Sprinting the straights and coasting the turns is a great training exercise because it is interval training. Fartleks/speed play like that will teach your body to use oxygen more efficiently and really improve your recovery.

I archery hunt up in areas 18/181/17 so I am used to that, I am hopeing that when I go to a lower altitude for training it will help. I know when I shipped from Las Vegas the first time, went to Ft Knox for training, then to Colorado I had a hard time running till I got used to it.

Get someone to run after you with a cattle prod. If they catch you while running an even pace they get to externally motivate you. They chaser gets to up the pace once a week. [Tooth]

OK so a buddy of mine said this really works.

He ordered this via a magazine add.

For 100.00 lose 10# in 1 week GURANTEED so he ordered.
Monday morning the doorbell rang and there was a stunning blonde in nothing but running shoes wearing a sign said catch me and you can have your way with me.
So off he went, this went on everyday for a week. He never caught her.
But he liked the way he felt and actually lost 12#'s. So He thought what the hell I am going to order package #2 $150.00 lose 20#s. So he did.
Monday came and the doorbell rang and there were 2 Gorgeous chicks in running shoes with their sign saying catch us and you can have us both. So off he went again.
Well he was doing pretty good but at the end of the week he never caught them. Feeling great now and having lost another 23#'s he dicided to order package #3, $200.00 guranteed to lose 50#s. When he placed his order the customer service rep asked "are you sure", he said yes as he really wanted to drop the final 30 or so #s.
Monday came, he was all ready, the doorbell rang and there was a Buff dude in pink running shoes that had a sign on his chest that said If I catch you Your Mine.
