I had some money burning a hole in my pocket when I stumbled across an excellent condition Springfield Stainless Loaded 1911 Champion w/ Novak's nites. Having sold my last 1911 a few months ago, I felt that I needed it to fill the void. This one has fantastic balance--I really like the feel of the 4" coned barrel. I just "need" to replace the ambi safety with an Ed Brown, and put some WWI style walnut, double diamond grips on it.

When I got home and looked online about takedown (since it has a reverse spring plug and no paperclip capture hole on the guide rod like Kimbers do), I thought it was going to be a problem since it ships with a spacer to hold the spring back for field stripping. However, I learned that it is easier than any 1911 I've had before as it strips and reassembles pretty much like a CZ75 or a BHP--you just line up the slide stop with the notch to pop it out, and the top end slides off. It also slides back on easily, as the recoil spring assembly "pops" in and stays in place under the barrel for reassembly. I can't wait to shoot it this weekend. It's my second Springer--the first was a mil spec, and my 8th 1911 over the years. Like a dolt, I keep selling/trading them off for something else. I just hope I like how it feels when I shoot it. If not, it may be on the chopping block.

Anyone else have one of these? How's it shoot for you?
