Anyone know of a good place to get some personal armor?
I found this site http://bulletproofme.com, prices look good for the plates but the carrier selection is not great.
Personal recommendations welcomed.

Thanks.

MSA Paraclete for Level IV plates/ACH helmets. Don't trust your life to anything else.
http://www.paracletearmor.com/

Tactical Tailor for plate carriers and other gear. (made by ex-rangers, used by current Ranger Bns).
www.tacticaltailor.com (http://www.tacticaltailor.com)

Its your life, don't deploy with cheap stuff; the price you pay in the end is not worth it. Spend the $$$, there is a difference.

a lot of times stuff pops up for sale on here. I don't know much about the new generations of armor but in the past it has been newer items, unused most of the time and pretty decent prices.

Try and get "BALCS" cut armor as there are many commercial carriers for them and have good coverage. You can find many vendors selling these but I second Paraclete is a very high quality brand as they actually seal the armor in a heat welded "sleeve". If you armor gets wet the properties can be minimized. I've seen some BALCS on EBay. Used body armor is a risky buy as the material (Kevlar, Spectra, Dyneema) is affected by heat over time and how it is stored.

(However, I did a test using an old 809's PASGT vest. This was stored outside for who knows how long. The 38 special didn't even penetrate the outer Nylon carrier, the .45 went through the Nylon and deformed the Kevlar, the 9mm went through every layer of Kevlar but that last one caught it. This was from 25 feet distance)

Get some SAPI's too. G.I. Issue style are good since again there are many commercial carriers available.

When it comes to tactical nylon stay with established brands such as Paraclete, Tactical Tailor, London-Bridge Trading, Diamondback Tactical, etc. ( I don't buy Blackhawk since they steal intellectual property and then build in Vietnam)
