I saw it a few weeks ago, seemed to me thathe was way to cowboy.
The one seen that struck me and made me feel for the troops was the camera man filming and everyone understanding what he was doing but not being able to target him. I think that was the most honest feeling scene.
Seems to me that if we are sending those boys over we need to let them open up the can.

Excellent movie.[Beer]
Although there were a few "Hollywood" parts, I liked it.
i liked the move as well my only problem with the movie was when he decided to be a hero and hunt down the terrorists felt that was a little Hollywood in my opinion! i wouldent think a squad of 3 men would risk there lives in the middle of the dark with no support besides themselves! basically wasn't to fond of the ending it could have been a little better! but they have to make it a Hollywood movie i guess. all in all it was a good movie to watch!

Movie was way under the radar for a long time-I saw it when it first came out in limited release and thought it was good. I've added it to my war movie collection since then.

I was honestly surprised it got all of the accolades. I thought it is good, but not that good.
I enjoyed it and thought it was intense.
NPR interviewed a few military people about it and I thought those guys acted dumb and blew it way out of proportion. The one guy was complaining and said that it wasn't an accurate picture of the military at all. He brought up how the guy doesn't use the robots and diffuses stuff himself. I thought the movie made it pretty obvious that pretty much everything the protagonist does is way over the top and not at all normal. They just don't make movies about people doing things the way they are supposed or events going as planned.
NPR also reported that half the troops they asked about the movie said they knew someone just like that and thought they knew the guy the movie was based on, and the other half said the movie was based on THEM. Including one guy that is actually suing because he says the character is based on him.

I agree. I enjoyed it when I saw it, but I'm not sure why it won the Oscar. I didn't get to see all the best picture nominees this year (I did last year), but of the ones I did see, I would have given it to District 9.
And of the ones not nominated, I would have given it to A Single Man. I bet no one else here saw that :D
I thought it was ok, you have to expect a certain level of drama added to entertain the non-hackers out there. In the military you learn that there are only two types of movies; 1. Educational, this is how you do your job and not kill anyone else in the process. 2. Entertainment, a colorfull assortment of pictures and sounds, to temporarily distract you from where you are, and what you are doing there.
Unfortunately I have to say it was horrible. Whomever they used to consult with was not very knowledgable. I have 4 tours in the box and have done EOD work, this was just too far out there.

I haven't watched it. I can't get into movies or TV shows about this war.

It was written by a guy who was embedded with a bomb squad in Iraq. Obviously a lot of it is exaggerated for entertainment purposes, but judging by the amount of money it's made I think most of the people who went to see it understood that.
Very exaggerared and unrealistic. It does achieve its purpose though, to get people talking about it, good or bad. Mildly entertaining at best, even with the lead character direspecting the Bn scroll on his shoulder.

I agree about District 9 and have heard all about A Single Man, have not seen it though.

did you get my text on the API? sorry didnt mean to hijack the thread.
haven't seen it but will soon enough! even if it is unrealistic I will watch it anyways. beats a chick flick any time!
Wanted, with curving bullets was what I would consider highly unrealistic. This movie had a few Hollywood things like bloody bullets jamming a Barrett mag, but for the most part, I thought it was done well.
unrealistic=
1) pulling 155mm howitzer rounds by a det cord ring main
2) EOD unit operating without security escorts (bounty on EOD personnel heads by insurgents)
3) EOD/Intel guy (Sgt Sandborne) has a CIB (Combat Infantry Badge)
4) soldiers not being briefed on presence of and ID of security contractors (they were in an Expedition, wearing oakleys, ball caps, & carrying Glocks/ AK's with rails and a QD single point sling)
5) contractors reacted to incoming fire like they did as EOD soldiers were nice & calm (to even get in country these days you need 8-10 years in SO to apply for static security, ie they are better trained than that)
I can find more if I watse 2 more hours of my life....

I watched this on a flight from Vietnam to Hong-Kong recently. Entertaining, yet VERY "Hollywood". At least it wasn't as bad as Three Kings.

It's a f------ movie !!!! I might scrutinize a documentary but not a movie.[Bang]
I'm all about scrutinizing movies, especially when characters do completely ridiculous things. I look more for things that are impossible, and allow a little leeway for things that are improbable because, as was previously stated by some smart guy (I forget who), no one makes movies where everything that happens is totally normal.
in other news, I watched zombieland, and I think that movie is pretty much a wet dream for most of us[ROFL1]

you mean "the Matrix" isn't real? Darn, I've been working on my bullet stopping you years now. What a waste!
hahah that movie was awsome, movies are there for entertainment and that what i get from them,

That's funny you mention the Matrix. I thought the first one was good, but when I saw the second one I sat there the whole time thinking, "Is this a joke?" I never even bothered to see the third one.
I went to the theater and saw Wanted (the Angelina Jolie one where they curve the bullets) and had a really good time...but it was because I was drunk. [Beer]

So you don't believe that movies are a form of entertainment and imagination ?
You can pick any movie apart if that's what you enjoy doing I guess. JMHO
I enjoyed it. Hey its Hollywood [AR15]
