View Full Version : Western Slope Meet & Greet
I would like the opportunity to get together with the other guys/gals on the western slope side. I live in Grand Junction, there is a rifle and pistol range set up SW of the airport. I generally go further down past the pistol range where I can be my own Range Master. I have a nice little area in a gulley in which I set up a "Hogans Ally", or tactical engagement course. You can also shoot out to a couple hundred yards up the wadee. Never been bothered or have to worry about cease fires, or negligent discharges.
Anyway I would enjoy just meeting some of the other like minded people in the area. You never know.... we may need a Zombie Termination Team, for our area.
If you are interested in meeting for a shoot, or no shoot Sea Story session, let me know.

Hi Jim. That sounds like a good time. You going to the gun show tomorrow? I'll PM my cell # to you, we're going to be there reasonably early and swing by Jimmy's (A Pawn) either before or after.

SNAFU you gotta get out to RSC. I'm out there every once in a while. I shoot the precision rifle matches every first Saturday and the IDPA/action pistol matches on the third Saturday. They also have some shoots during the week. The Thursday night before the precision rifle match they have a practice night. Right now they are doing Thursday and Friday "sight in" nights for hunting season. Lots of folks there hanging out helping each other spot so they can sight in rifles. Good way to meet some other club members. I grew up in Glenwood and most of my family is still there. My brother is a member at RSC as well and he's there quite a bit.

Welcome to the site. GJ here (obviously) and it is pretty quiet on the site in terms of the western slope. I'd recommend whitewater IDPA if you want to meet some decent shooters. Should be like a 25 minute drive for you. First weekend of the month, plan on getting there around 8:45-9:00. Turn on reeder mesa road in whitewater and drive (IDK how many miles, but probably 2-4 IIRC) until you see some large berms, maybe some tires stacked on the left side of the road. Continue on slowly until you see an open gate near the south side. Drive in, turn left out of the gate and turn into the first range there where cars are. Bring an outside the waistband holster and a handgun with ~150 rounds or so. Hearing and eye protection. Generally 9mm or larger needed but it's a club match. (5.7 also okay)
I might be there. I SO on occasion but I've been ridiculously busy.
There is also a uspsa shoot in Montrose. Haven't been there so I don't know details.
Grand junction IDPA shoots on the first sat of the month at the Bill Jarvis facility in whitewater, they have been doing 2 gun and soon 3 gun side stage. Come Join us.
Hotchkiss has a club, the match is on the 2nd sat with a multigun side stage. IDPA starting up in Montrose, first match april 23rd, 2011 at the San Juan range.

What do you mean by "shoots" exactly? You guys just get together and plink, or is it a competition of sorts?

IDPA format match, scored according to IDPA rules(for accuracy and time). We have steel, swingers, cover etc. we have some excellent highly skilled shooters and the multi gun stages have been popular. Join us shoot or watch first sat. of the month. We just had one sat, over 30 shooters, 5 stages.

I just watched a couple of videos on that kind of thing, looks like a ton of fun!
