View Full Version : Have you ever walked out of a movie?

Irving

I was listening to something on the radio about not finishing books. They were talking about how people are so compelled to finish books, but regularly walk out of movies and turn off tv shows.

I've never walked out of a theater in my entire life, and I've seen plenty of movies that deserved it. I've seen some really terrible movies, but I've already paid and set aside the time to see the movie, so it's not a big deal to just stay there.

What movies have you walked out of?

BigBear
04-01-2010, 13:05
I have walked out of a movie when there was "too much" violence/nudity/etc with my neice.

But on my own, nope... I paid for it, I'm gonna watch it and then tell everyone to stay away so they don't waste their money!

Haven't been to the movies in a while. I just wait for them to come to Blockbuster or whatever. Over $20 for a movie "date".... no thanks.

Vanilla Sky.

Went to see it with the wife at the artsy little theatre at Hampden and Tamarac. First, it was a jacked up Tom Cruise movie, with really fubared direction. Then the idjit in the booth puts the second reel in the projector upside down. Apparently, once you do this, there's no way to unthread it, you have to run it al the way through. so, we're watching this dumbass Tom Cruise movie, upside down, with the audio in reverse. After watching almost an hour of it, we were not willing to withstand it again.

just went to the movies for the first time in probably 8 months or so...$20 just to get in for the 2 of us and a fucking pop was $5. won't be back for a long time...

Movies recently aren't even worth my money, lol...

Although, I will say that my neice did enjoy the "How to Train Your Dragon" movie.

Irving
04-01-2010, 13:09
Well that is certainly understandable. A lot of people hated Vanilla Sky, I liked that one.

One time we asked for our money back because the theater was full of a bunch of teenagers (at least 20 of them) who were just there to talk to each other and wouldn't shut the fuck up. We eventually got them all kicked out, it was ridiculous!

Fortunately, we still have a drive in theatre in Pueblo. One ticket for two movies. Plus, you don't have to finance the friggin' popcorn and soda.

I guess I'm too cheap to pay to see a movie and then walk out. Just about bailed on Blair Witch Project back in the day. Most over hyped P.O.S. I ever suffered through.

I walked out of Star Wars. The first one. I drove from Greeley to Ft. Collins to see it. I finally watched all the way through about a year ago. I still don't get what all the hype is about the star wars movies.

Cloverfield... Saw it right after it came out and about 5-10% of the audience walked out. It was making me sick and it was just simply terrible. I re-watched it after it came out on disk and it is easily the worst movie I've ever seen.

That movie had such potential, but the director failed to tie any of it together. Terrible failure of a movie.

1. Battlefield Earth

2. Walk Hard

2.5. I almost walked out of "The Room" until I realized that it was so epically awful, it was entertaining in its own right: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCj8sPCWfUw

(The Esquire will be showing The Room next Friday, and I intend to be there)

My wife and I walked out of the movie precious. And that was even at the Elvis theater were we go to see a movie for $2.50 for the both of us!
And we walked out of a movie I think it was called Chicago. And one other by Tom Cruz with his x-wife. I can't remember the name of it. It was long, boring and perverted.

At first I thought you were talking about Nightfall (novel/ss):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nightfall_(Asimov_short_story)
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/6/65/Nightfall_cover.jpg/200px-Nightfall_cover.jpg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Nightfall_cover.jpg)
Really good story...
They made it into a movie...
I saw it on a shelf somewhere and bought it...
Took it home and started watching it...
I walked out of my own home.
[ROFL1]

In 1988, a low-budget movie was produced based upon the story. However, its script, while retaining the story's basic premise, deviated wildly from the original plot, and the film was roundly dismissed by critics and ridiculed by science fiction fans. Asimov himself disowned it. Another film version was produced in 2000, directed by Gwyneth Gibby (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Gwyneth_Gibby&action=edit&redlink=1).

(BTW: Kind of the premise for Pitch Black)

Daredevil and The Grudge are the only two I can think of. I went to see An American Werewolf in Paris and I was the only person in the cinema, so I stayed because I felt bad for the film.

I went to see U-571 and the cinema was empty right up until the film started, then a couple of kids (one early and one late teens) walked in and sat two seats away from me. After about five minutes of scene setting in a submarine draped in swastikas with all the crew speaking subtitled German, a voice piped up "are they Germans?"

Meet the Fockers
I walked out on the first one; Meet the Parents. What a complete POS.

I have also seriously thought of pulling the plug on the cable all together, but we watch a lot of sports. It's the TV's only saving attribute. I regularly shut it off in the middle of programs. Just too stupid to deal with... There's a book out there that's a great read about this by Neil Postman, titled "Amusing Ourselves to Death."

I have also stopped reading multiple books half way through because they sucked my will to live.... Most Stephen King books come to mind.... 30 chapters of bla bla bla for two chapters of actual plot at the end. Read some Diana Gabledon (dear god, don't ask me what I was thinking...) books that I couldn't finish either. Why do some women writers want to quantify every sub-second of their character's existance with the emotion of 'love'? The plot was excellent, characters were excellent, great story potential, good writing style... Just WAY too much emotional baggage in it for me to stomach. I read a lot though, so I'm always willing to chuck kindling in the pile to get to a good one.

I was going to ask which books people have stopped reading, but didn't want to start off with two topics right away. Only books I can think of that I never finished were Ghost Story by Peter Straub and Tess of the D'urbervilles.

I tried to read 2 books by Michael Moore, (Stupid White Men) and I can't even remember the other. Total foolishness. I threw them into the wood stove. Woodstove didn't like them either.

I feel asleep in Beerfest, but I'd been drinking all day so...

My cousin, who is an Alaska State trooper and myself, had 2 pitchers each watching Beerfest. I don't remember half of it, or afterwards. Much better movie when you are drunk. It was a crazy night, the cabby tried to call Anchorage police after my cousin flashed his badge for impersonating a police officer. Lets just say he was fresh out of the academy and looked about 12. The only one I ever walked on was "The Thin Red Line". That movie sucked more than any movie has ever sucked before. I lasted all of 10 minutes. Even my wife wanted to walk. Sean Penn...what a f**ktard.

I would've walked out of "The Turning Point"...but I was a teenager in love and wanted to prove to my girlfriend how cool I was by watching it with her and her mom. Dumbass... Two hours of my life I could really use now. I did fall asleep, though...does that count for anything?

Irving

I've had a copy of the book The Thin Red Line for a long time, but never had any desire to read it. Don't even know what it is about. Didn't know that there was a movie.

I don't understand how people can only give a movie 10 minutes though. That's hardly enough time to even introduce the cast, let alone any of the plot.
