I was wondering if there have been any thoughts about running a Tactical rifle match at the Weld County range like the ones that are down in Pueblo. I would like to do one of the 3-gun matches at Weld, but financially, it would be difficult for me to be ammo for 3 guns on multiple occassions and I don't have a semi-auto pistol. I really want to start shooting a little more but since I have a 1 year old daughter, money is a little hard to justify. Only having to buy ammo for one rifle would be doable. I may just have to make the trip to Pueblo one of these days. I live up by Sterling so it is a little bit of a jaunt to get there. Anyways I was just wondering. Thanks for the info.

www.wcfw.org links you to the range. you can look at the calendar for shooting events. there is no Tactical rifle stand alone event.

I run a M&P 15-22 for steel shoots to get cheap AR practice in. You can talk to Jerry and see if you can run IPSC stages with somehting similar, but it is based upon time constraints and your expecience level. A .22 lr conversion kit wouldn't be a bad investment to get frequent practice in.

I wasn't so much worried about practice time with my AR because I do shoot that quite a bit (although, not as much as I should). I would like to shoot more at competition. I guess I was just curious to see if this idea had ever been kicked around, as I know that many of the moderators help with some of the other matches around.

I would love to see a rifle only match somewhere in the state, even if only quarterly. Something IPSC based with a 200-300+ round count requiring movement, baricades, paper & reactive steel targets, and moving targets. I think it could be arranged, just would take some coordination and approval by range mgmt. Wheels are turning.........Let me look into it some & I'll let you know......

That would be an awesome match. I'd like to attend one of the rifle matches in Pueblo but it's a pretty long trip for me. That's why I was wondering if anything like this had ever been discussed for the Weld County range. It's closer to home. Just being greedy I guess.

If Weld ran one, I might come up for it.

But 300 rounds in one match is either too much of a good thing or a lot of stages.

Sometimes the best stages just test a few skills and are 25-30 rounds. Some of the worst ones I have shot were 45+ rounds.

I'm working with Jerry W. now to get one started. He likes the idea and we just have to sell it to the rest of the board. Could happen mid-Sept before nationals if all goes well. I will discuss this more with him this weekend.
I was thinking of 200-300 rounds to keep it from becoming a distance shoot. Perhaps IPSC similar shooting & moving with a mix of close targets, long steel, and movers. Lots of movement around walls/barricades/boxes and a few mag changes here and there. Any suggestions while this is in the planning stages?

I have not heard the term distance shoot. Whats that?

Lots of field courses sounds cool.

However, I like to shoot a rifle as a rifle. Shooting pistol stages with a rifle is fun now and again, but a whole match of rom clearing gets boring and expensive.

I match that tested your skills at close, medium and longer ranges would be a lot of fun. You guys are tossing around the same ideas I was thinking about when I started this thread.
