I know this may seem odd, but I was curious if anyone knew of a bicycle junkyard in the Denver metro are. A scrap yard that has a bunch of bikes laying around would work too. I'm looking for an old road bike frame for a bamboo build I want to try. So a place I could walk around and look would be ideal. Thanks!

I have a 22"(?) Kurwahara(sp) road bike. It has Sun Tour friction shifters. I road the hell out of it, when I lived on the flats, but it's just gathering dust now. It's in good used shape.

$40 if you pick it up.

PM me.

To answer your question: No I don't know of any bike yards. :D

Eh, pardon my ignorance, but what is a "bamboo build"?

Ginsue, I've heard of a bamboo build before, and I think it is a bike that has an actual bamboo frame. Supposed to be very light I believe.

Shane, Here you go, good luck.

What do you suppose that some of those [translated: ALL] were borrowed without the owners approval?

Not my picture by the way. I had to go search my other site for thread from a bunch of years ago.

All I can think about is the seat tube and the first big pothole... [Eek2]

Agreed. I know bamboo is exceptionally strong, but I can't imagine something like that holding up too well.

The Bamboo Bike Project is a project by Scientists and Engineers at The Earth Institute, Columbia University (http://www.earth.columbia.edu/), and aims to examine the feasibility of implementing cargo bikes made of bamboo as a sustainable form of transportation in Africa.

I know the Denver police hold bike auctions with all the bikes they pick up that are stolen, abandonded, etc. I would go to DPD website or give them a call and ask when the next one is (during the summer I think they pick up to every other Thursday)

Come on Stuart, stop holding out on me. Where does the crazy man with all the bike live? The reason I would like the do the build is just for fun really. I think it would be cool to ride around on something that I build from the ground up and I don't have any welding or soldering skills. The police auction seems like a very good idea and I think I'll start cruising the pawn shops and thrift stores soon, I was just hopeful there was a junkyard of some sort for this type of thing. I mean of all the places green and hippie, I figured they would want to reuse and recycle, haha. Next question, where do you find bamboo locally? I found a few sources on ebay.

You would be surprised at how durrable it really is. In Asia they use bamboo to build scaffolding for their buildings. Here's a guy who made a bamboo mountain bike that he actually raced.
