So I carry everywhere I go. But I have been thinking latley; I carry a bug out bag in my truck why not carry a semi auto rifle as well. Now I would love to keep my M1a in there and my chest rig but I don't think I want to take the chance of it getting snatched. So I am thinking about throwing my SKS in my tool box in the bed along with a dozen or so stripper clips of ammo. What other surplus type rifles would you guys consider for a trunk gun and how would you pack it to keep it from rusting up on ya?[M2]

Personally, I wouldn't keep a firearm in my vehicle - too much of a chance that it would get stolen, eventually.

However, if a person were intent on keeping a rifle in their vehicle, I'd recommend putting it into a silicon impregnated gun sock and then puttling that into a plastic bag.

I was thinking the same thing. I just dont think I will put it in a plastic bag. I have never had water leak into the tool box. Even if my gun gets stolen out of my tool box it is just a SKS so it wont be a big loss. I really like my SKS's though so I was kinda thinking about using a Nagant. I would have to buy another type of ammo but those guns go for 80 at Aimsurplus.com

Nagant,, all around, cheap enough,, durable enough.. Plus if it does get stolen,, it'll be returned in two days.. Nobody in their right mind would shoot those things..[Abused]

YOU should have no fear. Your shoulder might have other ideas. ;)

I have a 9" blade in my car, but I have a custom sheath that looks like a very large dildo. I'm not worried about anyone stealing it. I've been trying to work out something similar for a Sigma. I'll probably just wrap it in a Subway bag or something. No one wants a rotten old sandwich that you find in a car.

I'd keep the Nagant behind the seat. No rust and out of site, unlike a shiny toolbox full of tools. If it gets beat up, throw it away and buy another one next year. The muzzle flash alone will back up a whole herd of zombies. If you run out of ammo, it would work great as a bat too.

bobbyfairbanks
04-11-2010, 19:23
That is very true about the bat issue and no one likes zombies. How much ammo is the question for a Nagant?

I've been wanting one of these for hand gun storage in my truck. As for what I'd carry for a rifle? Gotta be a levergun (mostly for jury defense, although Nagant fits that bill) or a for an affordable "tactical" [Tooth] solution a KEL-TEC sub 2000. Or a little more money and get one of their rifles.

That is awesome. I wonder if they make something like that for a rifle. It would be great if they had one that was slim enough to fit behind my back seat and fit an AR and a Chest Rig. although that would go agaisnt keeping it cheap incase my truck is stolen

The Nagant wouldn't be a bad choice. It would take the adrenaline for a zombie horde (or charging Germans) to not feel the kick. And the butt has a nice piece of steel for clubbing after the ammo runs out.

I like the idea of a truck gun, but being an insurance agent I've handled too many theft claims from cars to feel OK just leaving one there 24/7. If I was going to leave on it would be a Nagant or SKS.

You could also buy the cannon from the for sale forum and just tow it around with you everywhere you go.

I could even mount the cannon in the bed of the truck on a turret. That would draw quit a crowd though. I bet I would get pulled over even more then I do now

Well, if I could head to dreamland for a few.. The ultimate "truck gun" would be a Marlin Guide Gun, 18 1/2" barrel, chambered in .454Casull/.45 Colt, 10 round mag capacity, loaded to about 21-2300 fps, topped with 250gr. AP/incendary bullets... "Should" be able to stop anything smaller than an Abrams tank... [Tooth]

Oh,, with a bayonet lug also, just for the "cool" factor....

Dragon Mans jeep here in the springs, he drives it on saturdays to the local "car show". Really cool guy too. He owns my favorite shooting range.

Where would all the brass and links go when firing the 60? Does the 60 eject to the left? I think it is a right hand feed but I might be wrong on that. It would suck to be trying to dirve and eat brass at the same time

I keep my SUB 2000 in my GHB, that is in the car most of the time. The SUB 2000 fits in the pack, so I can pack it if I brake down and I'm leaving the weapon in the car, but if I need it I have it.

IMO, I personally would avoid any plastic bags. They can collect condensation, and obviously wont breath. Your weapon will rust for sure in a plastic bag, and way faster than if just left out.

looking at all those gun trucks I am thinking about getting a 1919A4 semi auto to put on my Jeep

There are currently many models of onboard security racks for vehicles, take a look at the shotgun carrier in a patrol car. The problem with a weapon in a bed box, would be as mentioned the moisture due the change in temp from day to night. You can however purchase mil-spec weapons baggies which are weapon specific in size and shape, and add dessicant to absorb the moisture. Also the truck with the M-60, most likely has a mil-spec brass catcher mounted on the non-feed side of the weapon. As the M-60 fires the links and brass just fall off the feed ramp anyway so, flying brass really is not an issue. Talk about "Road Rage"!!!!, can you imagine seeing him on your six rolling down I-25.....

Mosin Nagant, in a silicon sock, zip tied to roll cage.
When I bought my police Mustang at a GSA auction, the previous owner was nice enough to leave the gun safe mounted in the trunk. Don't know for sure, but it was either a Postal Inspector car or ATF. I kinda miss it.

I was looking at an UZI for a 9mm Carbine but that Kel-tec looks sweet. Do you have a range report for the Kel-tec?

I checked out truck vault and downloaded their catalog. They've got some neat truck bed containers that would come in useful hunting or being outdoors. Could carry a full blown black rifle [AR15]

Totally true and I want one. But once you fill up the back of your truck with all those drawers you loose the rest of your room. There is this sling materiak that hangs off of the back seat and you can hang guns on that. think I will give that a shot.
