I picked up a S&W M&P15-22 for the Appleseed this weekend. I got it at Big 5 for $499.99. I was told each store only got 1. I added a Burris scope and bi-pod grip. I'm told to expect to shoot 500 rounds. This should save me hundreds?

Nice-I'm a believer in these too ! Just a recommendation but break it down and oil it up before you go.
Not shabby.
Iron sights are preferred sight method for the Appleseed, but they will allow optics.
500 is suggested, but at last year's, I think I shot less than 350rds of .22.
I'll be shooting my Sabre with a .22 bolt in it next weekend...

First thing I do.
"Iron sights are preferred sight method for the Appleseed, but they will allow optics."
I was tempted to leave the scope off and go with the iron sites - naw!
You will spend the day at 25 meters so the scope may be overkill, any more than a 4x will work against you.
Make sure you have a place to attach a sling on the front, there will be plenty of slings to lend if needed but if you don't have a post... Learning the sling use is a very large part of the weekend and without it you will stuggle.
I like it, I was tempted to pick one up today but not sure the wife would believe me when I said it was for the boy... Sticking with the ruger for a while longer.
Which event will you be at?

Gunnison, me to. Bring um both, you can work with each and see for yourself what works for you.
See you there, looks like you will need some rain gear.

Does it go on rain or shine?
Pretty much. Bring a slicker if you're worried.
