FBI Plans Temporary Suspension Of Fingerprint-Based Background Checks
Friday, April 09, 2010
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has notified state law enforcement agencies that all fingerprint-based background checks necessary for Right-to-Carry permit applications will be temporarily suspended from April 28, 2010, to May 3, 2010. The temporary suspension is said to be necessary in order for the FBI to process almost 500,000 fingerprints for Census Bureau workers.
The FBI will resume processing CHL applicant fingerprints beginning May 4, 2010. Delays from the suspension of up to two weeks are anticipated; with the FBI giving assurances that all fingerprints will be processed as quickly as possible.
Perfect, just what I need, a two week delay so I won't be able to take my gun when I travel next month.
Thought you already had your CCW?
Nope, less than 30 days now. I'm going to call them and see what they can do about looking at it before the FBI delay. Maybe I'm lucky and they already have.
Sorry to hear that. Hope all goes well.
Had mine for years and I am glad I did it when I did. Still haven't taken it on a plane yet even though I travel more than usual... just don't want to put up with teh #$%^.

This is due to the NMLS rush I BET
If you live in a county where they already take the full 90 days, does this mean that it could take 104 days? Or is it still shall issue within 90 days?
That's what I'm concerned about.
I thought they had to have it done within 90 days no matter what.
they sit on those things for a while anyways.
seems like tax stamps to me...I really don't think they should take as long as they do.

there is no law that prohibits you to "transport" a handgun anywhere in the country.
providing the ammo and firearm are seperated.
when we use to drive or ride across country, many years ago, the gun was kept by the wife and i had access to the speed loade,r or magazine depending on where we were going
No this could be a good thing. By law they have to issue or give you a denial no longer than 90 days so maybe this will make them bust their asses a little faster. I'm not positive on this but I don't think the FBI has anything to do with our CCW isn't it just the Sherrifs Dept and CBI?
Besides if the Govt can bend laws for themselves that affect us, say it does let them go over the 90 days the I think it's time to start some BEEF!

Great, I have to re-apply on April 26... those first 5 years went by fast!
Do I HAVE to be re-printed on a renewal?
I assume my current permit will remain valid or the Sherrif will have to re-issue the permit if the prints aren't cleared within 90 days.

Your GOVT. at work.

I just called Adams County and asked if that FBI thing will effect the CCW process. Denise told me that they have to go through both CBI and FBI, but since they must adhere to the 90 days, that it shouldn't affect anyone. She asked for my name, looked me up and said that I should be hearing from them soon.

Again.. NMLS is approaching its deadline, there are around 120000 mortgage brokers plus 50000 mortgage processors in the process if not about to begin their finger printings etc. I had to do 3 finger prints this year for the stupid licenses so far. [Rant1]
