View Full Version : Spanish culture experience
So for one of my classes (you guess which one) I have to immerse myself in the spanish speaking culture. Apparently shooting a Llama and drinking a case of Negra Modelo doesn't count so do any of you know anything I can do around town (like theater in Spanish or something like that)?

There are a few churches that have Spanish-speaking masses, if that's your kind of thing.

Try a hit and run.
There are a TON of little Mexican Carniceria's around town up north in the Westminster/Thornton area where everything is in Spanish and you're the only white guy around when you go in there. For instance there is a pretty big Mexican food place called Tacos Junior on 92nd and Federal. The prices are a little expensive (compared to similar restaurants) but it definitely has the right atmosphere and is a good place to start.

volunteer somewhere you can interact with the culture. outside of the questionable "persona non gratis" folks, hispanic culture emmersion can be an enlightening experience. just liek taking an anti-gunner shooting. once they see what we are actuall about, they relax and start to drift over to our way of thinking.

I only need one hour more (I've already visited the museum and watched Pan's Labyrinth w/o subs) so I'll probably visit one of those restaurants and just try to BS with some people there

if you only need on more hour, then this probably won't help you, but cinco de mayo is only a couple of weeks away

The DMV will give you a good taste. just don't wear your INS hat like I do[Coffee] they are less helpful then, but you will get through the line much quicker.
you can go in to brighton and work in the fields with the migrants if you want, take a little shopping tour in the all spanish speaking stores...
the flea market will give you lots of experience.
or go into commerce city and hit up a local park on a weekend. tons of parties there....with all the trash left
you could also hit up taco bell.
or just go eat at a mexican restaurant, sit down have a few margaritas, ask the server to talk to you in spanish and call it a day
something fun to do is put a Spanish channel on your radio and drive around with your windows down and the radio blaring. people will give you some hilarious looks.[ROFL1]

I know I'm probably insane, but I love watching that Asgaard tv show (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asgaard_%28Mexican_TV_show%29) that plays on the Spanish TV channel.
It's like Dungeons and Dragons meets Survivor, done on a Nintendo. It's crazy.
