How water proof are Shotshells? I had a flood on Friday and the shells were in the cardboard box in a gym bag and the boxs on the bottom of the bag was soaked. I pulled the shells out of the wet boxes and placed them into an ammo can with a few of those Silca packs. If is was rifle ammo it would have not been a big deal, What do you guys think?
Plastic or paper casing? If plastic should be fine, can't tell you how many I've dropped in water at the duck blind and they still go boom

I'll gladly test them for ya [Coffee]
If plastic you are obviously better off, but still not a sure thing.
It depends upon the shell. I have had some go off fine the next year and other brands not go off right or at all.
It is unlikely water got in around the primer.
Some of those shells have a tiny opening where the crimps come together. Water can get in there.

Cut one open and see if it got wet. This is the only way to know for sure.

just shoot em! shotguns are awesome, at a minimum it will either shoot or not. give it a few seconds if one doesn't go off just in case it is some kind of delayed fire, but water would enter through the top of the shell at the crimp, have to work its way past the shot and the wad (which is sealed like a mo-fo in there), and then get to the powder and primer. You won't have any issues.
the only thing that may happen is the bottom brass or nickel may turn green and start to semi-corrode. I would just shoot them as soon as you can and call it good.
