Will a 45LC revolver also shoot a 45 Auto?
Wouldn't the round have to have a rimmed cartridge to hold it in place in the cylinder? I don't believe you can do that.
In theory with moon clips.. Of course, with the increase of distance between the round and the forcing cone, There is always the chance of something going wrong.
ETA: could be anything from inconsistant groups to catastrophic failure.. Just depends on how the bullet bounces in the chamber.. Might be one in a million for the latter.

Ok, thanks, sounds like it's not done.
Of course, Ruger does make a .45acp cylinder for the .45lc Blackhawk, but I don't think that's really what you're asking.

Oh it's been done,, I'm just not sure as to how effective it is.. I read something about years ago.. Pretty much what I stated previously is about all I remembered from the article.

This would be the way to go..

I was just thinking how nice it would be to not have to buy 45LC and 45A ammo :) I've been looking around for a cowboy gun
.45Colt, (doesn't really need the "long" part) is a very worthy round. I understand your point though..

New Model Blackhawk Convertable (http://www.ruger.com/products/newModelBlackhawkConvertible/models.html)
I don't think the Blackhawk is exactly a "cowboy gun", but they're close. Looks like they quit making convertible Vaquero's, but you might be able to find a used one if you look hard enough.
This is just speculation on my part and not to be acted on without doing your own research, I think the old Vaquero used the same cylinder as the Blackhawk.

The Blackhawk with the adjustable sights don't have the traditional look of the Vaquero, but these are some single action revolvers. I had one with both the 45ACP and 45 Colt cylinders.
Great flexibility with strength to handle Buffalo Bore's 45 Colt +P loads shooting 325 grain LBT LFN.
If you decide to use the full power loads, go with Bisley frame. The standard plow handle frame on the Blackhawk or the Vaquero don't rotate as well under the recoil of the "magnum like" loads.

Bisley Vaquero (of the two, it's more fun to shoot)

Leather by El Paso Saddlery
ETA - the white stuff on the holsters is leather conditioner that I hadn't worked in all the way. It shouldn't reflect on El Paso in any way.

And to look at.
And to look at.
The Ruger BN445XL Blackhawk XL Revolver is much nicer looking. Cowboy guns look better with longer barrels.

I was in Green Mountain today looking at a old revolver that was listed as 45A. I asked about it not being a Colt round. The guy said it used moon clips. Anyone with experience with this?

I have a 1960's Intercontinental Arms Dakota , not Italian, made by Hammerli of Switzerland, in 45 ACP cal, EMF says their Italian 45lc cyl will fit, I have owned this gun a number of years, but never decided to ante up for another cylinder, after all 45 acp is cheaper to load/shoot, unless you are looking to"magnumize" your loads
