DENVER - The Denver Public School Districthttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif (http://www.9news.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=137832&catid=339#) is prohibiting employees from taking work-related trips to Arizona due to the state's crackdown on illegal immigration.
A written statement released by the district Thursday morning said DPS is forming a Citizens Advisory Committee to study the issue further.
DPS Superintendent Tom Boasberg is expected to make a public statement on the travel ban Thursday afternoon.
District spokeswoman Kristy Armstrong said Boasberg's order had the support of the board of educationhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif (http://www.9news.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=137832&catid=339#) and was being done "in protest" of the illegal immigration law.
Armstrong said the district didn't want to "subject employees to search."
The Arizona law requires police officers who have made "lawful contact" with a person to "make a reasonable attempt" to determine that person's immigrationhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif (http://www.9news.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=137832&catid=339#) status if there is a "reasonable suspicion" that person is an illegal immigrant.
Proponents of the bill say a driver's license or other government-issued ID provided to a police officer would be sufficient.
Armstrong said all DPS employees should have such identification but the district objects to them being asked to provide it.
Armstrong said every DPS employee undergoes a background check that includes legal residency. She said the district is "very confident" that it does not have employees who are in the United States illegally.
The Arizona law has sparked protests by a wide coalition of interest groupshttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif (http://www.9news.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=137832&catid=339#) across the United States and in Mexico.
Published reports indicate travel bans similar to the DPS action have been enacted by the cities of San Francisco, Calif., and St. Paul, Minn. Newspaper accounts (http://www.9news.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=137832&catid=339#) suggest similar bans are being considered by the cities of Los Angeles and Oakland.
When asked by a reporter, Armstrong could not immediately name another school district that has enacted a travel ban.

I'd be making a pretty angry phone call to Mr Doucheberg if I had kids in school in Denver.
I might anyway.

^^^ +1
You know, if they directed this type of passion towards educating the kids, the whole nation would be better off..
I'm curious how often anyone from DPS travels to Arizona for work related issues. Sounds like tough talk that won't affect a damn thing to me.

just for this, i am going to not only boycott the denver area, but kalifornia as well. two can play that game.
one thing that cracks me up about most of you....most of you are against socialized medicine, but send your kids to socialized school.
i unfortunately (because divorce) have no say in where my oldest goes to school. but my other four will never attend socialized (public) school.
to clarify my point. i wonder why people who are against the government using thier authority to govern healthcare for us, are for the government using thier authority to educate our citizenry. i know that in America socialized education is now the norm. but at what point in our history did it become this way? i know socialized medicine is the devil. but why? we are ok with the government meddling in our education (health of our minds) but not the health of our bodies? i was not singling out anyone. i was just making a statement.

I meant the boycott, not your phone call.
I don't even understand the boycott. When you are an employee, you go for training where ever the boss man is willing to pay for you to go. I can't imagine anyone would care about going to New Mexico for a seminar instead of Arizona. Big talk DPS. Thumbs down.

Title should says " DPS encourages illegal border crossing."
[Bang]
I gues we won't be seeing Bus loads of elementary children on anymore field trips to AZ then.
These school morons - gawd - hey let's encourage more illegal scum to come here.
Travel is extremely limited for public school employees on the states dime, especially for anything out of state. this is just a poor way to show their liberal agenda and make people believe they are making a difference in AZ.
You know, if they directed this type of passion towards educating the kids, the whole nation would be better off..
Oh you mean the NEA, sorry won't happen
Never
Educate
Anyone
HEY, I can have a little optimisim can't I... No?,, Okay..
I am a recent product of DPS and I think they have some other issues that require tending. I know the DPS dropout rate was 51% a few years back and I can't imagine it getting any better, maybe they should focus on that.

Must be a relief for the citizens of Arizona. No more goofy Kalipornians spouting their "organic" socialist tripe, no more idiots from Denver public schools. Sounds like a good place for my next vacation ...

I can picture the AZ legislators sitting around saying, "No one cares about illegals. How do we keep all the liberal douchebags outta the state?" The rest is history. Pure genius.

So the Denver School District, an educational organization completely supported with tax dollars and charged with educating (not indoctrinating) children, has decided to come out with a toothless threat to show their libtardedness. Somebody needs to backhand the school board and their commissioner, explain their role in the grand scheme of things, and send them back to do what they're really supposed to do with an admonishment that any more stupid foolishness like this will result in their removal from said organization.
ILLEGAL immigration is, by definition, ILLEGAL. Why is it OK for the libtards to tell me everything I'm doing is wrong just because I'm not one of them while they simultaneously DEMAND that we do things their way? Never mind, rhetorical question.

Did they somehow forget what their mission is: educating children, NOT getting involved in politics. Dumb a$$e$!

Oh, amen to that Brotha!
Title should says " DPS encourages illegal border crossing."
[Bang]
That's my take too.
I don't think the idiots that are forced to go to DPS are going away. They are boycotting the DPS and don't even know it.
Now I hear on the news that the kids are going to boycott Arizona by not going to school.
Yeah, that's the ticket. Deprive yourself of a day of education because Arizona is going to enforce a federal law. But honestly, it will probably one day less of socialist indoctrination.

Is the word "illegal" in the DPS dictionary???
[Rant2]
Teachers sometimes do have "inservice" or "growth" days. These are trainings (that 99.99% of the time are a complete waste of resources and time. Even though most of them are held in school, some are national/regional meetings. I have never heard of any training days, etc being done outside of the parent state... so I think this bill or whatever is just bull. More propeganda to support the administration...
As far as the graduation rates... they can't work on that. You see, instead of punishing schools with high drop out rates, they actually get MORE gooberment money to help them curb that trend... It's a never ending cycle. Granted, if the cycle continues for 5+ years, then they'll be talk of replaceing admin and/or closing the school. However, you just need one bad year, one good year, and the cycle starts over.... lol. It's all a game, all about the money.... As an aside, teachers aren't ALLOWED to teach anymore. They have to worry about tests, lawsuits, babysitting, etc.

and to the origional intent of the conversation... DPS administration should stick to minding their own backyard and not running their suck about another States choice of laws.

i was making the point that two part system thinkers, think that way. public medicine bad. public education good.
I believe there is some reason to this thought. People tend to think (and I agree) that public medicine would be bad for a myriad of reasons mainly being cost of service and how it has been implemented in other countries. However, I tend to think that public education (while certainly lacking in areas) is indeed a good thing as there is a common basis and requisite knowledge that one must have in order to succeed. While I have personally seen some prodigies come from the home school system, a lot of them lack other skills acquired in the public system. Again, this thought can be twisted to both pro and con. My thoughts are that education just isn't a level of book smarts, but that a certain level of life acknowledgement is played into "how smart" someone may or may not be.
Let one of us know if that is too complex a sentence for you to understand and we'll get BigBear to break it down for you.
Friend, please don't drag me into personal fights or vendettas. While I have no problem trying to take complex ideas and creak them down into meanial sums.... trying to guage sides is not in my nature. Every side has good and bad. While there is absoute truth, there is also a dimension of grey.
Tons of fights breaking out on this site recently... Let's all take a chill pill and remember that we are hear to express ourselves and learn. There is a huge difference between expressing yourself and condeming another for their beliefs/views on life. You cannot lead a man to drink by forcing him into the water.... didn't we outlaw waterboarding?! HAHA.

I am going there for a nice long one this summer. Hoping to be taking up a personal permanent residence there in the next two-three years.
