Arizona deputy shot; illegal immigrants suspected
By BOB CHRISTIE (AP) – 1 hour ago

PHOENIX — A sheriff's deputy was shot and wounded Friday after encountering a group of suspected illegal immigrants who apparently had been hauling bales of marijuana along a major smuggling corridor in the Arizona desert — a violent episode that comes amid a heated national debate over immigration.

State and federal law enforcement agencies deployed helicopters and scores of officers in pursuit of the suspects after the deputy was shot with an AK-47 on Friday afternoon, and the search continued into the night. Deputy Louie Puroll, 53, had a chunk of skin torn from just above his left kidney, but the wound was not serious and he was doing fine.

Glad to hear he is ok. Click above link for full story..

Beat me to it. Just saw this.

I hope the people against this law don't try to use this as evidence why they think this law is bad. I think any time you run across drug smugglers in the act, you stand a good chance of getting shot at. Glad he's okay.

That dude has some balls, pulling up to 5 guys with arms and attempted to arrest them without more backup. [UZI]

Probably should have waited for cover but I wasn't there. I do know that a lot of sheriff's deputies have to do things by themselves because of how remote they are all the time.

My only question though...Was the AK 47 that was used a stolen one from the US through the gun show loophole then taken to Mexico to harm innocents?

He could've also just rolled up on them and not seen the gun at first, you just never know. Glad to hear he is doing fine. Also, how would people against this new law use this as ammo for their argument Stuart?

Who knows what those dummy people think? I was scrolling through channels, stopped when I saw the headline and it went to commercial. I made my post, the show came back and it was CNN, then, right on que the guy says, "This will no doubt fuel the fire for the debate of the recently passed law." Ok CNN guy, whatever you say.

Gotcha Stu, I do see now how groups could say "If he hadn't suspected them based on their skin color he never would've been shot" or some dumb shit like that, you know classic blame the victim tactics.

I am going to have to say yes. the ammo was found to have caused the oil explosion that is now spilling oil all over the gulf coast as we speak. probably another redneck down in texas buying full autos with oil rig exploding ammo....damn that gunshow loophole.

My guess is that they'll use the arguement that if the deputy hadn't been there, if he hadn't been "looking for an encounter" (aka, if he hadn't been attempting to enforce the law), then he wouldn't have been in harms way - and THAT is why the law is bad.

Hippie logic!
