View Full Version : 99% Black
I'm fortunate to have a unique fox population around me, they defintely raise the entertainment factor around my place.
New litter around the bend, check this one out (could not get a real good pic)...99% black, a white tipped-tail and a bit of white on one foot and on his scruff but...pretty cool. I'll bet he weighs-in at around two pounds max in this shot, roughly 8 weeks old I think and has 3 other siblings.
There is only one other black adult I've seen around this area so I'm thinkin' he may be the father...but...somewhat rare to see all black. To see this "little one" is a hoot! I'm hoping s/he will claim some area close to me, seams to be quite the character (dominant) so far.

We got 2 black ones, 3 red ones they have a hell of a time wraslin' in the yard this time of year,, drives the dogs crazy but they know they are Safe behind the protective barrier.
Saw a black one over off Jackass hill the other day but I don't think he had anything on that little guy

Nice pictures. Cute little devils. A mom raised some pups under our deck last spring. It was entertaining to watch them. After the spring thaw I saw the damage the pups did. They chewed on every cord, hose, wire....

Beautiful critters in that pic.
Hopefully they'll stay in your area once they grow up.
Alright...I'm not gonna let this degrade into a "sappy-ass" long-haul thread but...here you are, some acceptable pics [Tooth]
1) The runt, scrappy as all get-out though
2) Blacky and his counterpart, the "tuffy's"
3) Another sibling
4) Family photo, excluding momma (if you look closely you will find all four kits in this pic)

Very cool! Like the pics.
So would these guys eat your cat if you had one? I don't think I've heard of people in the mountains having house cats that spend a lot of time outside.

I don't know about the cat eating (Hey, I that it was Alf who did that),

but if you've never heard a fox cry out, you're certainly missing something - it sounds like a terrified woman being victimized.
I occasionally hear coyotes by my place, and saw one on Friday in Federal Heights (I pulled over to take a picture, but it ran away).

Great pics.
We have a few around here, but have not seen any black ones.
Is that little hole in the rocks in the bottom left of the last picture their den?

Yep, they make some pretty trippy sounds. Took me a few nights to figure that one out .

When we lived in Florida the cats would occasionally bring frogs into the house. They sound like a baby screaming when they're being carried around in a cat's mouth.

My daughter is a vet tech in an animal ER. Some people found a black fox kit about the end of March with its foot caught in a pipe. They brought it into the ER where they treated it and then turned it over to Wildlife. If I can figure out how I will post a pic.

The rock formation hosting their primary den is literally the size of an 18-wheeler, unsure how deep or long underground it goes but they have many entrance/exit points, on the sides, top and bottom. That hole does provide access but I've seen em' pop in and out all-over the place. It's like that whack-a-mole game, they move at lightning speed and enter/exit at what appears to be at least 20 or so points of egress.
I could sit there and watch these little shits fly-around for hours on end, great entertainment watching them play grab-ass together. BTW - Momma has "other" condos spread-out in my area, she lives well and seems to only hang around this main den when she has maternal responsibilities. Hell, she hangs out in my garage with me 1:1 and suns on my deck when the mood grabs her, very social critter.
These two pics show what I would call the main entrances, each located at the base of the outcropping.

Same here with a family being raised under our neighbors deck, when they finally moved on to happier hunting grounds they left behind a big pile of critter bones with a horrible smell, whew did that stink![Eek2][GasM]

Hey...that's great and I'm glad the little one's liked the pics.
But...agghhhhh...now I need to watch my language when posting...I'm selfish and irresponsible (by choice) and I never thought about "tykes" looking-in.
Hopefully they are too young to read/interpret my poorly selected commentary [Stick] <-- Me].
