Hi all, so I got a new SKS and went out today with it.

I picked up a few different types of ammo for it. Wolf(black box stuff) Wolf Military classic, and Brown Bear.

The Wolf Military, and the Brown Bear shot without issue, and cycled the gun beautifully and ejected the spent cases no problem. The Wolf(black box) on the other hand, gave me a real fight. The gun would lock up tight in the bolt closed position, and I had to literally pry the bolt back with a screw driver the extract the spent case. I could manually load a round, and if I didnt fire it, I could cycle it out with the charging handle by hand no problem. But once fired, fuck me, I'll be damned if I didnt have to pry it open with a screw driver.

Anyone have any issues like this, or is there a fix for it. Obviously I will be avoiding the Wolf ammo and just stick with the Brown Bear, but ideas on why this happened would be appreciated.

Thanks

Does it have a clear laquer coating on it ? Did you clean the chamber real good ? What does the spent brass look like ? Any scoring or weird marks ?

I dont "think" the Wolf ammo has lacquer on it, but maybe some on ewho knows can chime in on that. I did clean the chamber very good, but it worked great with the Brown Bear ammo and the Wolf Military ammo, it was just teh black box Wolf that locked it up. Nothing that was apparent to me as far as marks or anything funky.

I did collect some of the extracted cases, and I will weasure all of them tomorrow.

Only the Brown Bear says on the box that it is Lacquered. The others don't say anything.

If it was a brand new barrel, make sure you clean the cosmoline. The first few shots couldve melted the wax and if you hold or put down the rifle upright, the cosmo couldve sipped onto the action and hardened as the rifle cools down. It happened to me. Clean thoroughly and shoot the same ammo again.

Hope it works out.

It was not a new barrel. It was just very strange. I will just stick with the brown bear for now. Maybe after I shoot it some more I will give the wolf another shot, other wise I will just stick with what did work.

Thanks

Ive shot over 500 rounds of the black box through my Yugo without a single issue, well other than the whole gas chamber shut off deal, but that was my fault.

The black box has the polymer coating(usually). I've had issues with it getting hot and melting the casing in the chamber, then had to fight to get it out. That could be your issue, or all the cosmo didn't get out of there. The lacquered stuff works way better, the military classic is lacquer coated.

Take a cleaning rod with bronze brush and put it in a drill and spin it around in the chamber, if you have bore paste use that

A 410 shotgun brass brush will work good for the chamber brush. Yeh take the bolt out and run the brush with a slow speed drill with some bore cleaner or paste. Should do wonders. And don't go back and forth Between the different coated ammo .

So, are you guys saying put a bore brush on the cleaning rod and attach it to a drill and stick in the money end of the rifle then spin it on slow speed the entire lenght of the barrel? Am I making sense......

Thanks for the tips guys, I will see how it goes.

Just in the chamber, and when done you have to tell us how it went after a trip to the range

Yes the chamber where the cartridge sits. Go in from the rear end. But the problem usually comes from switchin from russian ammo to brass but .......

Took the SKS out today and threw another 100 rounds down range with it. I was shooting the Brown Bear 123 gr FMJ, no issues and it shot great.

Man what a fun rifle! I was shooting clay pigions that I set up at 100 yards with iron sites. What a blast!
