Responding to a 911 report of breaking and entering, when they showed up someone inside the house opened fire.

There was a very similar officer ambush around the Seattle area last November/December time frame - within a week of the coffee shop killing of 4 officers.

Two officers, responding to a domestic distrubance call entered a home. Someone was waiting at the top of the stairs in the home with a "high powered" rifle (as I recall, it was a bolt action hunting style rifle - caliber unknown). This person shot the first officer in the neck (it did not kill the officer). The second officer drew, shot, and killed the gunman.

Wow, I really feel for his kid that he left behind. I wonder if kids that had parents die in the line of duty are guaranteed to grow up fighting crime in some capacity or not. It seems like it'd be tough not to.

I wasn't sure based on the article if this was supposed to be an ambush or not. Is that what people are thinking?
