View Full Version : Relocated from Illinois
Hello everyone. I've just relocated from Illinois and I'm a shooter. Life member NRA, C&R, etc. It's nice to be in a free state, but I'm retaining Illinois residency until after I vote my congressman out of office in November. This leads to two questions. First, does Colorado law prohibit an Illinois resident from purchasing a rifle/shotgun? (I just saw a CZ .22 that I want) Second, who has the best prices on safes? I'm located in the Broomfield area. Thanks in advance. FelixD.

Hi and welcome to the forum
Welcome. I'm from Geneva IL. I'm not sure on firearm purchases but I know that you have to reside in CO for 6 months before you are considered a resident.
I would get a new DL as soon as possible. Fishing and hunting licenses require proof of residency of at least 6 months and a DL is the easiest way.
Someone will most likely chime in about the firearms. I know most FTF sales here on the board will require that the buyer just show a valid CO DL

Welcome!
Thanks Bryjcom. I'm from Morris, west of Joliet on I-80. I guess new guns will wait until after the election.

Welcome. Are you looking for a safe or steel cabinet ? I have Stack On cabinets that are affordable compared to a safe. Google Stack On for local dealers. [Beer]
Ask the dealer. He'll know. He's also bound by IL law. But, if you were from a "Normal" state w/in the US (basically anywhere else besides CA and NY), then you could buy a longarm, w/o being a resident. Those two 2 states have funny laws which make it illegal to import guns into their state and etc.
So, based on US law, you can buy it....BUT, there is a portion of the law that makes it illegal for a dealer to sell you a gun in violation of law in the state that you are from (IL).

FelixD, welcome to Colorado and the forum. I retired out here from Naperville, IL and Colorado sure beats the hell out of Illinois for many many reasons. I'm way down on the South portion of the State and seems like everyone down here is "gun friendly". You will be able to get a CCW much easier in this State too.
