There is a senate hearing on the bombing attempt at times square. The NYC Mayor Bumburg is using it as a platform to pursuade the senate to install gun control. I think I am going to puke. The Police Chief Ray Kelly is describing incidents where weapons have been involved with Ak56's and other semi autos . Dumbass. Their point is that stopping guns is going to stop terrorists.
So we won't have to register IEDs ?
Also NY already has very restrictive handgun laws.
NY State permits don't cover NYC and vs versa

Maybe they need to ban SUV's. Or perhaps a 3 day waiting period for purchase.

Nope. He had gasoline as a major part of the bomb. Waiting periods and background checks to buy gasoline. That'll stop terrorism. (and travel and the economy)

So as more information pours in on this meeting at the Senate, they are wanting to ban anyone who is on the No-fly List from purchasing guns. Just wanted to clarify what has been debated. I do not have a problem with keeping No-flyers from buying guns, it is kind of like keeping Felons from purchasing as well. As long as they decide not to go further with it. Unfortunately, I feel that is their plan.

So if you don't mind people on the No-fly list from purchasing guns would you care to explain to me how one ends up on the no-fly list? How one gets their name off of it if they're not there legitimately?
Remember, Ted Kennedy found himself bumped from a flight because he was on the no-fly list.
This is the same government who's Department of Homeland Security released a booklet detailing how gun owners, "constitutionalists" ,returning war veterans and tax protesters are "potential terrorists".
All they need to do is get their hands on a copy of the NRA member list and BAM we're all "prohibited persons" overnight.
Hell, as for keeping felons from buying guns ... I think you'd be amazed what minor crimes (and things you'd never think were crimes) are classified as felonies. I think you'd be amazed what innocent things you've done that could easily be construed into a felony.

I would argue that the PURPOSE of the proposed legislation is to "find a way to take it further".

Stealing cable in certain places is a felony. There should be no such thing as a non-violent felony.
Looks like you can easily dig right under the fence in a few minutes. Also, I'm guessing the post with the camera makes it very easy to climb over the barbed wire.

I can see the point of non-violent felonies ... certainly what Bernie Madoff did should be on the level of a felony.
HOWEVER, I don't believe one should PERMANENTLY lose a constitutional right for a non-violent felony.
And frankly I wouldn't mind if the law barring violent felons from possessing arms going away. If you can be trusted out of jail, you should be trusted with all your rights (and its not like the laws against felons possessing arms does a damn thing to stop violent felons ... no its just the guy that screwed up in his youth and wrote a bad check that is unable to defend his family 20 years later).

Do you realize that there is an 8yo Cub Scout on the DHS Terrorist Wastch List, which includes the no-fly list? (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/14/nyregion/14watchlist.html (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/14/nyregion/14watchlist.html))
How about the 4yo boy who shares a name with someone on the no-fly list so it has caused him grief in being able to fly to see his grandmother? (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10725741/)
My point is that the no-fly list has LOTS of folks on it that are due to mistakes by the government. Many (MANY!) others who are on it without truly valid reasons.
I'm not aware of ANYONE NOT getting put on the list until AFTER "due course" through the judicial system.
Of course, the government is looking for ANY reason it can come up with to ban anyone it can from owning/possessing a firearm. As individuals who claim to honor and respect our 2A rights, we should be the absolutely LAST people to support such blatant assaults on our liberties.

theGinsue cuts to point. How do you get on the no-fly list? None of your business! Secret stuff not for us. Maybe your name is similar to some bad guy. Maybe you pissed off a fed. How do you get off the list when you have no rights to learn how you got on. I'm kind of old-fashioned and believe in due process and rule of law - not executive decree. If some grumpy white guys do an Oklahoma City extremists like GOA members, even NRA members, could be on all sorts of lists.

Right you are. But, it doesn't even have to be a felony to lose your gun rights...misdemeanor domestic assault loses your rights too. I thought I'd heard of another misdemeanor conviction that does it too, but I don't recall what is is right now. Keep in mind that about a month and a half ago I was almost arrested for a felony menacing charge for just standing in my own yard quietly with a root beer, flashlight (not turned on) and closed expandable baton.

Dang it!
The more I think about the no-fly list, the more I'm disturbed by it. What is it exactly?
If you've committed a crime that makes the US not trust you to fly, then you shouldn't be allowed in the country anymore, or should be in prison right? I kind of view it the same way I feel about felons not having their full rights. If you're not in jail, then you should have your full rights. Is the no-fly list supposed to prevent another 9/11? Is it supposed to stop people from fleeing? What is the purpose exactly?
It's a list of people who the govt doesn't trust to not be terrorists and try and hijack the flight they're on.
Very McCarthyish.
But then so is the patriot act.
However, all the outrage and complaint from the left over patriot ended the day Obama was elected. In one evening it went from a tool of a fascist dummkoph to an important part of keeping us safe.
