Anyone ever heard of this happening before......?
I live in some apartments and have a garage, well some new people just moved in the apartments and they gave them a garage, only problem was.. it was my garage. I only keep a few tools and boxes in there, but went to park inside yesterday and it was full of someones elses stuff, i mean up to the ceiling, motorcycles, tires, washing machines, boxes i could barley walk inside, and now my tools are buried under everything. The apartments say they cant move everything out til the weekend. Now cant work without my tools...[Bang][Rant1][Bang]
Pawn shop?... it's your garage under lease right? ... hehe

That blows man. The only think I can think of is go to the local hardware store that allows you to rent tools, and stick the bill the to the land owner if possiable.

sounds like all that stuff is now your stuff and the owner of the garage will be responsible...although that would suck to be the other people as they didn't know.
make sure ALL of your stuff is there when they get it cleaned out

LOL yea i wouldnt steal anything of theirs but i hope none of my tools are gone, I have some real nice stuff buried under this stuff, anybody know what i could do if some stuff is missing?
It'd be your word against theirs. Honestly, I'd dig through their stuff to get yours and bring it in to your apartment until after the whole thing blows over...

Yea i cant, it is packed in the deep, i cant even see one box thats mine, they said all my stuff is at the bottom....[Mad]
Get a 12 pack and a buddy and toss that shit out.
when they are taking the stuff out i would be there if you can or someone who knows what your stuff is as in these cases stuff can walk away a lot easier than you know. if you can i would switch the numbers and or key on the garage even now so they have to come to you to get their stuff so you can watch them do it and not take your stuff plus its your space. and your stuff was in it to begin with i would question the fact i might have the wrong unit, but i guess people just dont think like that any more.
you would think that when the new people seen tools and such in there they would have told the office, unless they thought they had a score of free tools.
yeah my point exactly. this is why i label and inventory most of the stuff i care about in case of issue like this and or theft.

Winner.... but honestly is a trivial pursuit in todays culture.
"Oh look Bob, FREE TOOLS!!"
I don't think that ripping off the people who were just unloading their stuff where they were told to, is the way to resolve the issue at all. Nearly every single place I've ever moved into has had stuff left behind.
God I hated living in apartments.
I feel your pain man.
The last place we lived at there was a guy that wasn't really right in the head. He always played with everyones kids out by the clubhouse. Anyway one day he tells me "this key opens all the storage units". Me thinking yeah right bub knowing his condition. So I thought why not take him up on his word and escorted him to our personal storage unit. Sure enough he puts the key in and opens the damn door. Turns out his dad was one of the maintenance guys there. Him and his son regularly went through peoples shit. We reported it and got some lame excuse and an apology.
How do you know your tools are still in there?
I'd get my hands on my property ASAP.

Call the cops and explain someone has filled you garage with thier garbage?
Might want to consider INSISTING on a cop or Sheriff's Deputy being present when the garage is cleared out, just as a precaution to prevent any BS. They do that for evictions, don't they?
Absolutely involve the PD.. you have rights here and the complex is just expecting you to forget that. Insist that they, the complex immediately move the other persons property and insist that there be a cop there to assist in supervising along with you so that you can ensure that your property hasn't gone missing. If it is, make damn sure you let the complex know that they are liable for the full replacement costs of said property because of their failure.
I hope you have renters insurance as well!! If not, get it.

thanks everyone, they move it all out tomorrow, im going to watch them unload everything, if my tools are gone, could i sue the complex???
Why the complex and not the people who had access to your garage? Well, the complex would be liable, but good luck getting anything out of them.

Ditto, +1 to Stu.
I realize the apartments made the mistake. But if anything is missing, you need to go after the people that had access to that space, not the apartments... Good luck getting anything out of anyone without receipts/pictures/etc.... I know.
I hope to God you take the advice about having The Law present.
