I have been buying and selling guns off this board for years, but thought I'd get the "temperature" of this board on a sale in limbo. I posted my Springfield Stainless Loaded Champion for sale Wednesday morning. The buyer sent an unconditional "I'll take it" about 40 minutes later, and I updated the post. By email, we decided we would meet yesterday (Friday). On Friday morning and early afternoon, I tried calling him three times, and left one message (in the morning). I also emailed him twice trying to set up a firm time and place, with no response. At the end of the day, I emailed asking whether he was still interested. No response to anything yet. How long do I give him to get his stuff together and get in touch with me before I repost it for sale?

he's done, go to the next lucky contestant.
he's done, go to the next lucky contestant.
Agreed.
I know shit happens and things come up, people get busy, life happens etc. But when you make a commitment at least try to stay in touch with the person. I don't care how busy you are it takes all of what a minute at the most to send an email or dial a number?
If it was me on to the next one.

Exactly, he should have called Wed/Thu to let you know Friday wasn't going to work out.

When I am buying or selling stuff I usually make sure my communications are pretty good. No reply after a couple of attempts its his loss.
Yep I agree, time to move on.
I had something similar happen last night. I am selling some of my guitars, and have them listed on Craigslist. Guy contacts me by email at about 9am yesterday asking if I still have it. I reply yes I do. He says he lives in the Springs but is coming to Denver tonight to pick up his daughter and would meet me at Bass pro shops at 7:30. I asked him to give me a call when he was about 30 minutes away so I could load up the car and head out. Well the wife and I were getting hungry and she is asking what we are doing. So I send him a text at 7:40 checking status. He says he isn't even to Castle Rock yet and still has to go to Thornton so he is gonna be late. No problem, we will go eat, I asked hi to call when he was about 30 minutes out. He calls! Says he is on his way over there, we have a real good conversation, and I give him directions and instructions of where I will park. This is now like 9 o'clock. The wife and I get to BPS, and sit in the parking lot for about 10 minutes, I called to see where he was and to confirm my location with him, he doesn't answer. Five minutes goes by, I call again, no answer. We decide to go in the store to look around. We stayed inside until 10 when they closed. I tried calling him again, no answer.......WTF
Moral of the story, IF YOU CHANGE YOUR MIND HAVE ENOUGH COMMON COURTESY TO LET THE OTHER PERSON KNOW!!!!!
Seems like people now a days a cowards, and would just rather blow you off than tell you they can't do it, or something came up, or you know what I just don't want it any more.....fine I would rather you tell me that than waste MY WHOLE FUCKIN EVENING!!!!!! Fuckin asshole.
Ok, rant off....Sorry I just needed to get that off my chest
leave feedback, thats what it's there for (not sure about someone.. check their feedback and deal with accordingly)
but hopefully people can man-up and do the right thing.. for crying out loud, we're our own worst enemy ..
..people handling their firearms like morons getting people killed / injured
..people being inconsiderate of their fellow shooters when it comes to safety.. hell, even shooting others targets
..people spreading stupid ass rumors about anything firearm related.. which gets to the lamestream media and the next thing ya know....
..leaving shooting ranges a dump
..lying dealers
..scaming dealers
..private sales ripping their fellow gun owners off
we need to police our own or are ya all a bunch of libtards?
(if the shoe fits..etc...)

7, you hit a sore spot with me. Last time I shot at DM, some knob shot my target, and then after I called him on it, continued! WTF?@!?! I'm so happy I joined Frontier Sportsmens Club.

Friday?
We were supposed to meet Friday?
Was that morning, afternoon, or evening?
My wife erased all the messages on the phone.
My dog ate the computer.
I'll think of more excuses, just give me a little time.
Oh wait, IT WASN'T ME WHEW...... [ROFL3]
Sorry to hear you had this kind of experience.
I have met with a number of people from this board, and without exception, they have all been at the meeting place within 10-15 minutes, from the scheduled time. Great folks to deal with. Of course, there is always the exception, just glad I have not met him/her yet.

+1 on leaving feedback especially since it has happened to more than once in dealing with that person. I always check people's feedback well at least the one I don't already know.
Thanks for the head up!

I have to say, I have dealt with many people on this board, and I have really enjoyed meeting all of them. I have never had someone on this board disappear like this guy did. I've had deals go away for various reasons, but the buyers have always had the common courtesy to call or email and let me know the deal was off. Granted that's not ideal, but at least it is civilized. In the end, it all worked out just fime--I sold the gun to a good guy this morning, and didn't have to deal with the d-bag.

A guy should do what he says he's going to do. I understand things happen but you have to communicate. I've been sitting on the computer after having a few cocktails and committed to buying guns I didn't need or couldn't afford. Guess what, I bought them anyway because I said I would. I should not be allowed around a computer with a beer and a credit card!! It gets me in trouble every single time!![ROFL1]

Lucky--You said it. I have gotten up in the morning and thought, "why the hell did I agree to buy that last night?" And, you are right--you make the deal, you pay the price. Oh well.
I've said I'd like to buy something, and would get back to him for sure after vacation. Well, after vacation I found out that I'd have to start saving money immediately, so I immediately notified him that I would unfortunately not be able to make the purchase. I never heard anything back from him, and assume that he was upset (I was too, I REALLY wanted it!), but at least it was before we planned on anything.

[Rant1]I have aways followed through with all of my deals. Even if I was running a little late, I would call my contact and let him know about it. In my view, there is no excuse whatsoever. Everyone's got a cellphone these days.
Happened to me two weeks ago, showed up to the meet spot after talking to him on the phone and waited....

I had put my reactive (spinning) target out at the North range.. some guy walked up to the line w/o even introducing himself.. started shooting at things.. bored a 5.56mm hole through my target (for .22 LR only). that obviously torqued me and still bothers me a bit... A min or two with the MIG and it's ok now.. but still.. dang

That was me, I apologize I left late (my problem not yours) and thought I could still make it up there, ended up ~15min late. And despite sabot's comment not everyone has a cell. I will still make good on my offer if the other guy didn't want it.

I had a similar situation, except that I was the one shooting the other guys target. I was shooting at 50 yards to get an initial sighting on a new gun. He was at 100 yards and his target was set up directly down range from ME (at quite an angle to his position - you could even see where his target SHOULD have been set up). I apologized and refrained from shooting (was waiting until the next break so we could move HIS target..I was boxed in by a shooter on the other side as well). This ass-munch kept up his smart mouthed BS so I just resumed shooting. He packed up and left.

Where is DM? Curious, even though it sounds like a shit place...
I'm thinking maybe "DM" might be Dragon Man's out on hiway 94 in Colorado Springs. I use the 200 yrd range and have never had a problem. But I always hear lots of stories of douchebaggery.... interesting.

Yes, by "DM" he was referring to Dragon Man's.
I've gone and had no issues and gone and been treated like crap from Dragon Man for simply going in and trying to my pay money to use the range, and even had issues with the Ranger Officer trying to insist on using one of my guns to see how it handled.
The story I related above about shooting someone elses target was at Dragon Man's.
The place is hit-or-miss but still gets my business due to it's proximity to my home (actually, it's only 5 - 10 minutes from where I work, only I can't have a firearm on my person or in my vehicle where I work).

I was there saturday after the doctors shooting some clays with a friend. Good times. I've heard bad stories about him and the place, but I have yet to see anything come to fruition. People usually leave me alone and let me do my thing. Now that I know you live close by, we'll have to get a group together some time and go shoot some clays and the .308.
I've had personal experience with DM. I wish I could find a collection of "been screwed by him" stories on the 'net somewhere. The only place on the web I ever found any doesn't exist anymore. Ask at some of the older Harley/custom bike shops in town, I bet they've got some tales.

I won't say that I've ever been screwed by DM or his people, but I've certainly been treated much less than respectfully by them.
I've never heard of this DM place, nor have I ever been there, but how does a place stay in business if they piss everyone off and treat them like crap?
Seems less than professional and not very good business.
