My Dad has a 2002 Jeep Liberty Sport V6 3.7L and when he comes to a stop at a stop sign or light, the engine will not idle and dies. He keeps it in neutral and revs the engine to keep it alive. This only happens once the engine is hot and will idle just fine when you first start the engine.
I changed the spark plugs, he had them already, and it didnt change anything. I accidentally broke the throttle position sensor, so I replaced it and it didnt change anything. I also took the idle air control valve off and cleaned the carbon up and it didnt change anything.

Anyone have any ideas as what to do next.
I do not have the ability to put a diagnostic system on it without paying a bunch of cash.

Appreciate the help [Beer]

check engine light come on at all?

I can give a few more things to try even if you don't have codes (auto parts places will pull codes for free):

EGR valve- if it's sticking open even slightly, that will kill an idle, but run ok otherwise

throttle body (clean out carbon fouling)
dirty injectors
MAP sensor (I believe this is a MAP system, not a MAF)

If you're around Colorado Springs, I have a diag system that hooks to a laptop- will give real time data to help... it does OBD2, but not the new CAN systems..

Check engine light is on bcse power steering pump hose had a connection, i replaced it with one that didnt have the sensor plug in. So its always on.

What does EGR stand for? I have a Chiltons manual and can not find something close to the acronym.

Just the same, scan and see if any new codes have shown up...

Happened just recently to my dad's V6 Frontier. Changed the air filter, ran some fuel system cleaner through, and replaced a cooked O2 sensor, and truck runs fine again.

^^^this^^^

Even if the light is already on, new codes could show up- and you won't know unless you pull codes ('cuz it was already on)

the codes will go a long way to help locate the problem..

I googled real quick and got

P1294 Target Idle Not Reached

Check for leaks around the intake manifold (spray carb cleaner or something similar around)

It's pretty common in these for a bad battery to cause this but there's usually no cel on. Also if you just installed an iac, it's normal for the jeep to act funny for the first 5mi or so.
