View Full Version : question about road trip to wichita, kansas
I have not gotten my carry on permit yet but i plan to later on this year. I usually leave my hand gun in my car without taking it out cause i usually go to the gun range once in a while. my question is, is it legal for me to leave it in my car to kansas? i read their gun laws and it seems to be almost the same as ours. thanks!

If their law permits it, yes. Just read the state statutes and wichita county ordinances...

In three days, I've heard this comment over six times. How common is this for people? My weapon is either on my person or in the safe. Do a lot of people "leave it in the car"? Don't you worry about people breaking into your car, etc?
actually no, i'm not scared. my car is usually either at work with me or in my garage. i rarely take my car else where.
You're more confident than I am my friend.

people who don't have CCWs don't have the luxury of keeping it "on their person" all the time.
Keeping it in your car is the next best thing.
there are a number of safe storage solutions for your car.

Ah, touche. I wasn't even thinking about that...
I used to have to throw my gun into the glove box every once in a while, but I would never leave it in my car if I didn't have to, certainly not over night. If I parked in a garage every night I might though (well, that's also assuming I had a lot more guns).

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Leaving a gun in your car is one step away from giving it away. The one step involves broken glass. I'm guilty of it too, but I avoid it like the plague if at all possible.
I throw it in the glove box and lock the box. I know that isn't any real protection, but most times I've had to leave a gun behind, the car is some where busy where someone doing a snatch and grab isn't going to have the time to crow bar my dash apart.
Well, that's what I tell myself anyway.

My car isn't that new and it looks like nothing valuable is in there.
Years ago I had a job where I had to do some fix up for a landlord and would often have 1000's of dollars of tools in my car. I kept a big bag of old McDonalds wrappers, cups and other crap. When I went into a bad neighborhood I'd scatter them all over my car. (Hint: Wash them all this stuff so it doesn't smell.) Nobody ever broke into my car.

your car like your camper. tent, motorcycle etc is considered emminent domain. the same laws apply. i carry anywhere in the country, i also have a very good lawyer. However in states that do not recognize CO CCW and or don't afford their residents the lawful right to carry, it is very close by. I can reach it w/out any hinderance, same for the full mag that is not in it.
I have travelled to both coast w/out any over reaction by law enforcement, once they notice my CCW permit, which is next to my DL that i have needed to produce for the occasional excessive limits of speed.
YMMV
