I was down in central TX last weekend pig hunting with my 450 Bushmaster.

Friday night, I got two piggies with one shot! Yes, one shot.

About 15-20 piggies moved into the feeder just after sundown. Looking through the scope and I could see there wasn't a big one in this group. So I picked one where I could get the best shot. Boom, when I could get back into the scope, my plan was to swing right, where they came out of the brush and try to get a second shot. Wrong, they broke left and by the time I got there it was too late. When I went back to the piggie I shot, I saw two on the ground, not one.

What happened was the 250gr. 45 cal. Flex-Tip passed through piggie #1 and smacked piggie #2. It passed almost through #2 and when they were skinning it, the bullet fell out. It had penetrated everything except the hide on the opposite side.

Love that 450 Bushmaster!

+1 on the Thumper... Try hitting one of the 50 lbs or under... you'd be collecting bacon tid bits off tree branches.

I've been wanting to go on a pig hunt for years.

Would you mind sharing some of the details of the hunt (organization you went through, cost for hunt, how the cost of the pigs stack up, etc.)?

If you don't have a place to go or friends to go with, using a guide service or going to a hunting ranch is probably the best bet. They will get you into hunting spots where you will be pretty certain of connecting. These guys are good:

I have not tried either of these two places personally but have a friend who swears by them:

Here is where I was this year.

Both pigs this year were very small. Both weighed under 100#

Last year they went slightly over 100#. This photo is from last year. I am the handsome devil on the right. [ROFL1]

One last question. How do they taste?

Not like chicken. More like pork. Mmmmmmm bacon!

I was wondering if you could smoke any portion of those and if they'd taste okay still (with consideration to them being wild and all).

I know a couple guys who go to Texas each year for hogs. We get a small package of chops for grilling and they always taste great. Would never know they are wild.

Full disclosure - I sacrifice to the pork grillin gods at least twice a week and am really biased about pork of any kind.

Hope to go along next year. A five pound package of chops ain't gettin it done anymore. I need at least 2 hogs to meet my addiction.
