Some of you may have seen some of my work, so I figured some may like to see the progression of it.
The first step is taking total responsibility for your actions; if you screw up a pretty 1911, well, that will suck. Gotta have that faith in your own abilities, I guess.
Here it is with the initial sketch / engraved marks; no turning back now. More pics to follow as more work is done.
risky move, looking forward to the results...

Ditto.
Sweet, is that a Wilson or a Night Hawk?

Brings to mind a quote from a good movie:
"That’s how you become great, man. Hang your balls out there!"
Good luck!
Shit. The Internet can do anything these days.

THIS^^^^
I hope you're happy with the results.

Thanks for the kind words, all! [Beer]
Got some more of the outline finished. :)
Looking better than the Glock so far IMO.

That's what I thought when I read the title too.
TheInternet, do you freehand it all, or do you design it out in advance and project the design onto the slide to be marked before cutting? It would be tricky to get a design to project over the curve without distortion, but a little curve tool should make it work, especially if you can test it in real time using a projector display.

It's all freehand; I draw something on it & see if it looks "right."

Pretty damn good for freehand (I would have neither the artistic skill nor balls to carve up a couple of my guns like that).

Thanks, ya'll.
Any chance you can shoot some video of the engraving process? Little tripod for the camera or something. Would be cool to see.

Unless it had midget strippers dancing in the background, it would probably be as entertaining as watching paint dry. A time-lapse thing might be cool, though I'd probably spend too much time sweating my fawk-ups.
So are you saying that you don't have a lead on the midget strippers then?

I don't think I'd sweat a mistake for the cameras sake, and be more concerned about the slide.

The basic outline is pretty much finished, but got a bit distracted this evening:

Put me down for 10,000. Engrave mine "Bang." [ROFL1]

It's been a while, but here's an updated picture. What a pain this process is - good thing I don't have a life.
If it could be done small enough I think some bullets engraved, "Hi Mr. Coroner!" would sell pretty well.
