View Full Version : Kinda lame but funny for the over ~40 crowd
You old guy's remember this stuff - heh heh, burned hours and hours on end with these toys...back when shit was "real" and the almighty corporate dollar, lawyers, special interests and safety programs hadn't yet taken over.
My old man stopped-by last week with a some boxes he'd been draggin' around the globe for literally decades, two of them had loads of Tonka, Mighty Tonka, Matchbox, Hot Wheels, Structo, etc., must be a thousand+ toys in there that have not seen the light of day in 35-40 years if I had to guess.
Made me reflect a bit and smile...thought some of you might get a laugh or two as well...

Thanks-I do remember and HAD all those [Beer]
Over 40? I'm in my mid 20's and played with Tonka trucks and Hot Wheels.
That crane might be worth some $$ to collectors my friend. Saw an episode of Antiques Roadshow where someone got over $1500 for one that looked worse than yours.
And BTW, I'm with Irving here - Mid 20's and I've played with Tonka/etc when I was younger.

Definitely brings back memories! Back when all the toys were metal. Good stuff! And I agree with Bear in that those things could be worth a few pennies if you decide to let them go.

I had that exact same dump truck.
H.
Only 34 here but had a loader and dump that looked identical to those.
I had a friend with a an old shovel like the orange one in your pic.
That thing might fetch some good coin from a collector.
If done properly, the dumptruck was an excellent skateboard. Not that I would know.. [Tooth]

Ok...I'm done after this but...apropos for CO-AR15...[Tooth]
Unknown vintage G-MAN Model A50, full-auto capability, suppressor, Andy Warhol Camo, well-used and dirty (not LNIB) but mostly functional - still shoots "sparks". Will I need an AOW stamp for this?

23 here and I had a loader and dump truck that looked like that... not sure where they are now.
Ah, toys....I had some cool ones back in the 50's and 60's, but this was one of my faves. Had a great time blowing the balls off the Christmas tree, until Mom caught me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePDpdhOPIsM

Ah yes, back when kids were less fragile. Sharp edged metal toys and rust wires.[Awesom] Fun stchuff.
Because back then parents took responsibility for teaching their kids instead of trying to safe-guard the world.
Dad: Son, don't touch that wire (electric fence for the cows) it will shock you.
Son: Will it hurt?
Dad: Yes son, that's why I'm telling you not to touch it. Please learn from my experience and knowledge. Respect that which you don't know.
Son: *Grabs wire* OWWWWW!!!
Dad: I tried to warn you son. Did you learn the lesson?
Son: Yes Father.
Dad: That was just the fence, touch these other wires (overhead hangs) and you could die. Do you believe me son? Please never touch these type of wires.
Son: Do now dad. Thanks.

Or maybe my Evel Knievel (http://www.evelknievel.com/) Daredevil Stunt set!
I had that dump truck, front loader, and the fire truck as a hand me down. Still a few years from being 30 though.

It was a sad day when I came to the realization that I was "too old" to play with toys like those. Went on to other things.
Then, in my early 20s, I had the first of two sons. It was like a rebirth. I got to play with all the cool toys again under the guise of "just playin' with my kids". I spent a fortune on toys like that for them. We built many miles of highways and hauled tons of dirt with those Tonka trucks.
It was awesome!
