A buddy of mine had some property in Castle Rock where we could shoot handgun (set up our own little stages/multiple targets) and rifle out to 500m.
Due to Imminent Domain...they lost it so Castle Rock could put in a bike path right through the middle of it.
I really would like to get back to shooting a couple times a month somewhere private (READ - no clubs or public ranges on BLM or Forrest land).
I know I could attend some of the other shoots in the area, but I'd rather shoot more than once an hour and more than 100 rounds.
Does anybody have or know someone with some property where a smallish group of us (5 +/- FRIDPA members) could go shoot a couple times a month? Preferably on the fringes of the Denver Metro area?
First and foremost safety. Good backstop and IDPA range rules apply.
Second, leave no trace. Paper targets (some steel gongs), and no brass left behind.
Third, it does not go public or get abused. The occasional bringing of friends is OK, especially to educate the "Never shot before". We had a couple of ladies at the last match that were first timers (well, second timers actually. First IDPA) and they really could benefit from some one on one coaching in a freestyle environment like this.
Fourth, it will not turn into a whackjob spraying of lead willy-nilly akin to what occurs at the outdoor public ranges. The purpose of this is to get real practice and training in, not burn up 500 rounds as fast as you can pull the trigger. There is a great deal of satisfaction hitting a 12"x12" steel plate @ 400m with a semi auto shooting surplus ammo and a 4x scope.
As a field service mechanic, I have been at some job sites around the city and it is driving me nuts either seeing a range set up on another companies property (we used a quarry off Titan Road to store some dirt removal from one job. Perfect handgun shooting area, and rifle out to 600m...they had targets set up) or hear shooting on what is clearly private property or an outdoor facility that is closed for the day.
Don't post it here, just send me a PM. Don't want anyone giving up a secret/confidential intel.
