I got my letter of acceptance yesterday to go to the AIMS police academy in Greeley! Now I just have to come up with loans and grants! Sounds like it will be fun, and I hope I enjoy it.

Hardly any of them will pay to put you through it anymore... most used to.

Everytime I hear that I think of the episode of Cops where some kid was running from the cops on a scooter. He got home, ran inside, and hid. The cops drug him out while his mom was screaming "he ain't do nuttin, he was inside playin da intendos. He were playin games on da intendos!"

no cities or counties want to give out that kind of funding I guess?

Yeah, when I applied to Denver, they went on and on and on about how expensive it was to put people through COPS certification, and if they decided that you wouldn't work out, they'd do everything they could to make sure you wouldn't ever work in Denver again. They did a fantastic job making me NOT want to work for them.

Denver is one of the few that will send you through if they want you... but they have their own academy. It's going to cost me 10,000$+ to put myself through it.

Congrats! Its a REALLY tough market out there with some super stiff competition. I graduated in 08 an steadily saw the number of people in hiring processes grow. When I first started the academy, there would be 15-30 people for 2-4 positions. Lately its gotten out of hand! 75-125 people for 1 position and such, and then you gotta wade through all the laterals and people with degrees in CJ. Best of luck!!!! Use it as an opportunity to grow and to learn. Keep your ears open, your head up, and dont skimp on the PT!!!!!!

Congrats! See, this is why we need a CO-AR15.com sticker for our vehicles - so our fellow site members will just give us warnings when we get pulled over! <wink>

Now that's some funny stuff! I'm going to have to use those.

Congrats man! Let me know what you find out on loans/grants because I was always curious how much of that you could get for Academy. I may be going the same route.

I intentionally put my NRA and related stickers on the passenger side of my car, so they're less likely to be seen by cops. This is because in the late 90's I got pulled over for a routine traffic stop with a "Glock Perfection" sticker on my car. Instead of just issuing a ticket, it was officer with his hand on his gun asking me to step out of the car with my hands showing... FTS. I hate how cops react to anyone else carrying a gun. They seem to feel anyone else with a gun is a threat. If that's the case, then should we treat them as being a threat? I should probably remove the NRA sticker as it's just advertising something that shouldn't be.

"I think I have power over you boy" is more like it. I'm pretty sure no one with a stolen/used in a crime gun is rocking any NRA, RMGO, etc stickers

Good luck with your endeavor, it is indeed a tough market out there, but not impossible. For the responses in regards to the Academy being paid for by a department, there is a difference between being hired by a department that will then put their "Cadets" thru either their own academy (Denver, CSP to name a couple), or an academy provided by a College, and someone choosing to go thru a College Academy to obtain their POST certificate, in order to later meet the qualifications that most departments now days require in order to be hired. Just sayin. Either way good luck, i'm sure you will do great.
