Wow... and WOW....

If I'm reading that right, apparently a lot of people don't pay taxes.

Nuts!

Small great news, Gov Christie of NJ announces that he will work out the budget issue ($800mil shortage) without raising taxes. He wants small govt.

That could go way higher way quickly if Europe drags us down. There's all sorts of off-book debt hidden. The Fed has some of the worst. After the crash of a couple of years ago they massively expanded with programs that are none of out business. They gave guaranteed trillions of crap the banks owned, taking the banksters word for what it was worth.

I wish people like me could get in on this. I have about a ton of manure that has to be worth millions. Anybody care to give me a loan for it. If I default you get the manure. Actually, we're all paying for the manure.

Like they say in Full Metal Jacket, "It's a great big shit sandwich and we're all going to have to take a bite."

This caught my eye:

US Pop: 309,356,455
US families: 80,922,096
US Income taxpayers: 110,194,963
US Food Stamp Recipients: 40,518,132

So half of the families in America are on welfare support?
Only a third of the population pays taxes?

again: Wow.

It's more like half that pay taxes, the others are under 18 or over 65. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Nearly-half-of-US-households-apf-1105567323.html?x=0

That means that half the population is poor. That's pretty messed up, isn't it? And 40m are so poor they get food stamps. We've ceded the title richest nation on earth some time ago. Our top 1% still trumps the rest of the world, but for the bottom 95% the standards of living in many other first world nations is higher than here.

We need to cut welfare, period.

That sounds like an entirely rational and reasonable response. I'm glad I spent the time to read those two sentences, they enriched the discussion.

again they are comparing families to recipients...
if there are 4 people in the family eligible for food-stamps... that's 4 recipients not 1 family
so the actual number of families on food-stamps isn't accurately depicted and this gives an inaccurate comparison.

and give my kid a break... he's a citizen... he doesn't pay taxes... he just learned to walk a few months ago :D

Thanks for the clarification. As far as your kid... if can walk, he can work! I'm kidding, I'm kidding. [ROFL1]

So the Vet that just came home without his legs and cant make ends meet with the paltry crap the VA Gives him.... He gets a little bit in welfare, and food-stamps, whats your solution for him?

I serisouly think this is just wrong. I think if it's a Vet, the military should take care of them and what the military can't do, the community should. The whole "brotherhood/protector" thing. Guess I'm just a romantic.

or what about the single parent trying to raise 3 kids after the other parent was killed by a drunk driver?

After killing the drunk driver... I think this is where a familial system and support is so needed. People just don't adhere to the familial structure anymore.

You got knocked up at a party again and don't know who daddy is...
Easy solution for that! Sterilize them!

I received a 40% disability and a Medical discharge with severance from the army.
I Just received yet another of a line line(since 1992) of denials from the VA.

I was separated for spinal injuries acquired in the course of my duties causing parathesis in my extremities... now they are claiming that the parathesis isn't service related.

Well to continue with the tangent distraction:

To all .mil/vets (especially those disabled):

If you need help with anything (yard work, painting, etc) then shoot me a PM and I'll do my dangest best to orgainze a little help with a friend and the brother in law and help out a little on a Saturday/Sunday or something.

**Disclaimer: Manual labor only. I can't loan/give anyone any $$. I don't have any! And No, I will not go pick up your prescripts for you!

Offer stands.

NOW back to the regularly scheduled program....

I'm against welfare in general because it takes away the personal responsibility we all should share for our neighbors, family and friends. With the government promising to do everything for everyone there is little reason to care about what happens right in your own neighborhood when it should be your responsibility. Not the responsibility of someone in Florida. It's all the same “spread the wealth” and “spread the responsibility”. Bullshit. That just leads to apathy for your fellow man. “Let the government do it.” No. We need to grow up personally and as a nation. No to socialist bullshit. No to their guilt trips. I think there are a small number of exceptions. If you serve our country in war you should be provided for.

Sometimes I wonder if our politicians are doing this intentionally. Everyone knows this kind of spending will destroy our nation and the vast majority of politicians only seem to want to INCREASE spending. The Dems also want to destroy our economy with cap and trade, what a good goddamn idea. But then again, how's that quote go? "Sufficient stupidity is indistinguishable from malice."

I agree that the welfare abuses need to be curbed, But you should really think before you go spouting stupid onto the net. the program is there for a reason and the principle of it is sound. I only despise the abusers and free-loaders draining the system and making it harder for those people that actually need it and deserve it.

A little personal responsibility Haiku for you

Look at Dear Leader
Welfare for everyone
I be gettin rims

It also pisses me off how shitty a lot of vets get treated by the system, seems like they (the gubment) have the same type of people working to find any little reason to deny the people who need and deserve it the most.

in all seriousness the welfare, section 8 housing, food stamps, free school lunches etc etc all need a massive overhaul to root out those who take advantage of the systems. In general those systems were designed to help those who are in need to get back on their feet, not to make a means for people to live fairly decent lives without working a day in their life or having lots of kids to make sure they keep their benefits up.

I think a lot of the money from welfare needs to be stripped out and put into the VA fund, help our vets and those who actually do something for this country.

illegal immigration reform will save a metric shit-ton of cash across the country in the all the programs out there as well.

more oversight in the all systems, making recipients show proof that they actually require such benefits, and also see what they spend their benefits on...I highly doubt these people need the newest iphone out there to text on while they get their cut from a bar fight stitched up on our tax dollars....
